No additional rain is expected, and temperatures are projected to reach above freezing Sunday afternoon. This increase should melt any remaining ice and dry most surfaces, though shaded areas and overpasses may continue to be a risk so use caution if driving or walking.

A strong Arctic cold front will move through San Antonio early Saturday morning, 24 Jan 2026.

We are under a Winter Storm Warning and Extreme Cold Watch.

Expect Hard Freezes across the area on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights.

Wind chill values expected to be in the single digits to lower teens Saturday and Sunday nights.

Light freezing rain is expected across San Antonio Saturday night with ice accumulations ranging from a trace to one tenth of an inch.

All precipitation is expected to move out of the region by Sunday afternoon, and temperatures should reach above freezing long enough to melt and dry road surfaces, so your Monday morning commute should not be impacted. Nevertheless, please exercise caution Monday morning as underpasses/shaded road areas may remain icy.

An arctic airmass will arrive Friday evening, bringing hazardous temperatures through the weekend. By Sunday morning, wind chills could drop just below 0 into the single digits and teens. The highest potential for ice accumulation from early Saturday through Sunday focuses on the Hill Country into the I-35 corridor. Probabilities are lower farther to the south, including San Antonio. However, uncertainties remain regarding the exact ice amounts, onset/ending times, and duration of freezing temperatures.

Now is the time to take preparations for the expected winter weather arriving Friday and impacting North and Central Texas through the weekend. For family, friends, and pets: Keep enough non- perishable food, water, & medications for at least 3 days, bring pets indoors or provide adequate warmth, update your first aid kit, and charge your phone ahead of time. For your home: Install and or test heaters, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, cover outdoor pipes and seal doors/windows. Ensure safe use of portable heaters and/or generators. Gather flashlights, batteries, candles, and extra blankets. For your car, make sure your gas tank is full and prepare an emergency kit including first aid, cell phone charger, jumper cables, blankets, water, snacks, and an ice scraper/brush.
