A Mother’s Day Post

After 30+ years as a chiropractor, every once in a while, I get reminded just how important moms are. Occasionally, I will have a couple in my office with a toddler. Dad will get on the table, I will adjust him, the child is curious about the process of what's going on, and watches without a problem. Then, when mom gets on the table, it’s on! Full meltdown until she is off the table, reassuring the child that she’s okay!

I know what they are thinking: if anything goes wrong with him, we can find another one of those. But I can’t replace her!

Moms are the backbone of the family. So, to all the moms out there, enjoy the day. You’re irreplaceable!

Accuracy of mild traumatic brain injury diagnosis

Pubmed August 2008 published the article: Accuracy of mild Traumatic Brain Injury Diagnosis.

197 patients who presented themselves to an emergency room within 48 hours following an auto trauma were interviewed. 56% were diagnosed with mild traumatic brain injury following the emergency room visit. The emergency room failed to diagnose the mild traumatic brain injury despite patient's reported findings consistent with the mild TBI diagnosis.

Up to 40% of patients with mild TBI have symptoms persisting for more than 6 months.

mild TBI constitutes 70 to 90% of traumatic brain injury cases. 20% of mild TBI will develop chronic and persistent post-concussion symptoms.

Forward Head Posture

Correcting forward head posture isn't as simple as YouTube videos may suggest. Fixing spinal alignment involves remodeling ligaments. Take a look at these photos of a patient standing in a normal posture. Notice in the "before" image how the head protrudes forward, causing the body to compensate for balance. This misalignment leads to a rounded thoracic spine, hips tilted forward, and a strained lower back with jammed joints.
