‼️We have a zero-tolerance policy for disrespect. Thank you for visiting PRMA's Breast Cancer Reconstruction Community. Are you interested in breast reconstruction? Want to learn more about your options? Our goal is to help breast cancer patients learn more about breast reconstruction and the latest procedures available. Only 30% of women facing mastectomy for breast cancer are offered breast reconstruction. With your help, we can change this. We want women to realize that breast reconstruction is not only possible but also an option for them. Breast reconstruction is NOT a cosmetic procedure; it is every woman's right. PRMA Plastic Surgery specializes in advanced breast cancer reconstruction techniques including the DIEP, SIEA, GAP & TUG flap procedures, vascularized lymph node transfer, fat grafting, Alloderm One-step, and ni**le-sparing mastectomy. We are In-Network for most US plans. Our most common reconstructive procedure, the DIEP flap, uses the patient's lower abdominal tissue to reconstruct a "natural", warm, soft breast. Unlike the TRAM flap, the DIEP flap preserves all the abdominal muscles. Patients undergoing DIEP flap reconstruction essentially receive a tummy tuck at the same time as the breast reconstruction. Since the abdominal muscles are spared, recovery is easier and patients retain abdominal muscle strength long-term. We have a lot of very useful information on our website http://PRMA-enhance.com - Please visit to learn more about today's most advanced breast reconstruction procedures. When it comes to breast reconstruction, many patients are surprised to learn that using your own tissue can offer long-term benefits.

In this video, Dr. Pisano explains some of the reasons patients choose tissue-based (autologous) breast reconstruction.
Here are a few of the advantages:

✨ It’s a permanent form of reconstruction – your reconstructed breast is made from living tissue, not an implant that may need replacement over time.

✨ It’s warm and living – because it’s your own tissue with its own blood supply, it feels natural and part of your body.

✨ It looks and feels like breast tissue – many patients appreciate the softness and natural movement that comes with using their own tissue.

For many women, this approach can provide beautiful, natural-looking results that age with the body over time. 💗

If you’re exploring your reconstruction options, learning about the differences between implant and tissue-based reconstruction is an important first step.

There’s nothing better than getting to welcome our patients back through the doors 💗

We loved catching up with one of Dr. Whipple’s amazing patients, celebrating how far she’s come, and hearing about the incredible things she’s doing beyond her journey—including her new book, Surviving Cancer with Your Strengths 📖✨

Written by Traci McCausland, this powerful guide helps patients and caregivers navigate cancer by leaning into their natural strengths—offering practical tools, mindset shifts, and real survivor stories to bring more confidence and hope to every stage of the journey.

Moments like these are why we do what we do—building lasting relationships, celebrating milestones, and continuing to support our patients long after surgery. We’re so proud of you, Traci, and honored to be a small part of your story 🤍

Understanding LVA: Lymphatic Bypass Surgery

For patients with breast cancer–associated lymphedema, Lymphaticovenous Anastomosis (LVA) offers a minimally invasive option to help reduce swelling and improve daily comfort. ✨

During LVA, Dr. Fries uses microsurgery to reroute excess lymphatic fluid directly into small veins, helping your body drain fluid more effectively. This advanced procedure works best when performed early and can make a meaningful difference in both the look and feel of your arm.

With so many new faces in our community lately, we thought it would be the perfect time to reintroduce one of our surgeons. ✨🩺

Meet Dr. Andrew Gassman, a board-certified plastic surgeon who joined the PRMA team in 2021 and specializes in advanced breast reconstruction and microsurgery.

Dr. Gassman earned his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and went on to complete a general surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center, where he served as Chief of Surgical Resident Education. He later completed his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine before pursuing fellowship training in breast and reconstructive microsurgery at UT Southwestern.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Gassman has a strong passion for research and education, and has spent years helping train future plastic surgeons in advanced breast reconstruction techniques. 🩷

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, camping, and experimenting in the kitchen. 👨‍🍳🌄

One of the most common questions we hear from patients considering breast reconstruction is: “Where will my scar be?” 🤔

With DIEP flap breast reconstruction, the incision is typically placed low on the abdomen from hip to hip, often in a position that can be hidden beneath underwear or swimwear. 🩱

While every patient’s anatomy is unique, our surgeons carefully plan each procedure with both reconstructive success and aesthetics in mind, always aiming to create the lowest, most discreet scar possible.

It’s also important to remember that scars continue to change and improve over time. As healing progresses over the months following surgery, they often soften, flatten, and fade.

And in many cases, the second stage of reconstruction can offer an opportunity to further refine scar appearance and overall contour.
If you’re exploring your breast reconstruction options and have questions about scars, recovery, or results, our team is here to help. 💗

Every reconstruction journey is deeply personal — and every story matters. 💗

After a late-stage breast cancer diagnosis and a year of treatment, including chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, and mastectomy, this patient came to Dr. Gassman at PRMA Plastic Surgery to explore her reconstruction options.

Like many women, she initially thought reconstruction meant implants. Instead, she learned about the DIEP flap reconstruction — a procedure that uses a patient’s own tissue to create soft, warm, natural-feeling breasts. ✨

Her experience is a powerful reminder that reconstruction is not one-size-fits-all, and that the right information and support can make all the difference.

Today, she says her results are “so much better than I could ever have hoped for.”

Stories like this are why we do what we do. Thank you to this patient for trusting us with her care and for sharing her journey with others who may be navigating breast reconstruction after cancer. 💕

Aging affects every part of our body — and breast tissue is no exception. But what actually changes over time? 🤔

In this video, Dr. Merceron breaks down how aging impacts the breasts and how a breast lift can restore a more youthful shape and position.

You might notice things like:
✨ Loss of volume in the upper breast
✨ Skin stretching over time
✨ Ni***es sitting lower than they used to

A breast lift is designed to reshape the breast, remove excess skin, and reposition the ni**le — helping create a more lifted, balanced appearance.

Every patient’s anatomy and goals are different, which is why consultation and personalized planning are so important.

If you’re curious whether a breast lift could help you achieve your goals, Dr. Merceron and our team are here to guide you through your options and create a plan that’s right for you. 💗
