Patient safety remains a top priority of the Neurology Institute of San Antonio. We are carefully monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) in association with our local and state health departments as well as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). We are making every effort possible to protect our patients, therefore, we ask that you understand the symptoms of COVID-19 and how to prevent the spread of the virus.

The CDC has reported the following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure:
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of Breath

The best way to protect yourself from the virus is to wash your hands often and avoid close contact with people that are sick. Many of our patients are immunocompromised. For those patients please be diligent in protecting yourself as recommended and avoid large crowds.

As your health is very important to us, we ask that anyone that is sick with a fever, cough, or sore throat or anyone that has traveled out of the country recently or been exposed to anyone that has traveled out of the country recently, please call our office to reschedule your appointment. We appreciate your cooperation.

For more information regarding COVID-19, you may visit the CDC at

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a virus (more specifically, a coronavirus) identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China.

Please see letter below from Dr. Van Delden. She has been a vital asset to the Neurology Institute of San Antonio for many years and will be greatly missed by all. She is an exceptional neurologist as well as an exceptional human being. We wish her all the best in life and are very thankful of the opportunity to work with such an amazing woman.

May 10, 2019

Dear Patients,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I will no longer be able to serve as your neurologist at the Neurology Institute of San Antonio. Due to unforeseen family medical issues, I have decided to immediately retire from active practice. It has been a pleasure to serve as your physician and I want to make this transition for you as smooth as possible.

I am pleased to offer you the opportunity to stay with the Neurology Institute of San Antonio. The practice has two well-trained neurologist, Dr. Suzanne Gazda and Dr. Richard Neiman. There are also three experienced physician assistants on staff. The practice is happy to continue your care and I am pleased to leave my patients in capable hands. I recommend that you notify the practice of your preference and call to reschedule or cancel any appointments you have with me as your care will need to be transferred to one of the other providers, at their next available appointment, if you choose to remain with the practice. Of course, you may seek care from another doctor if you prefer. If you choose to seek a physician outside of the practice, please let us know. Our physicians will remain your treating neurologists for 30 days from this notice.

A copy of your confidential medical records can be released to you or another doctor. If you choose to see a different physician, please contact the office to transfer records. A signed authorization form is required to release records.

Additionally, if you are being treated with botulinum toxin for a) blepharospasm, I recommend establishing with Dr. Christopher Debacker or Dr. David Holck or b) upper limb spasticity or cervical dystonia, I recommend establishing with Dr. Maria V. Alvarez or Dr. Juan Ramirez-Castaneda.

I appreciate the opportunity to serve you over the years and wish you all the best in your future health.

Sincerely,

Ellen Swann Van Delden, MD
