A TENS unit provides pain relief during early labor by generating a mild electrical current to short-circuit the body's pain response. It is a non-invasive tool that many women find helpful for pain management before transitioning to other comfort measures, like a tub or shower, in active labor.

In Texas, the attendant at a birth is responsible for filing the birth certificate. A "Verification of Birth Facts" form will be generated for you to proofread and sign, after which the birth certificate will be submitted to the state. Parents can order a copy of the birth certificate online within 3-5 days after it is released to the system, and the Social Security card will arrive in about two weeks.

Pitocin, a synthetic form of oxytocin, is commonly used in hospitals to induce or strengthen labor contractions. However, we do not use it during labor at our birth center because it can cause intense contractions without breaks, which can be difficult for both mother and baby. We do have the ability use it postpartum, administered as a shot into the thigh, to help the uterus contract more efficiently and prevent excessive bleeding.

The Webster Technique focuses on enhancing pelvic function, crucial for labor and delivery. It promotes proper alignment of pelvic structures to help the body push more effectively and create a clear pathway for the baby. This approach ultimately supports the three essential elements of labor and birth: power, passage, and passenger.

Our Story

The Birth Center Stone Oak was conceived by Joi Brock who realized the need for out-of-hospital birth center options in the area after moving to San Antonio in 2000. Joi’s practice in midwifery began in 2006 and the Birth Center opened its doors in 2012 with the belief that birth is a normal process of a woman’s body – it is a joyous, celebrated occasion. A woman who feels supported, informed and respected will embrace her journey through birth with empowerment, excitement and satisfaction.

Birth Center Stone Oak of San Antonio, TX, is proud to assist mothers. We provide a range of helpful birth services, including prenatal care and education, labor and delivery assistance, and postpartum care. Reach out to us today to learn more.
