Not everyone gives birth in a birth center, and that’s okay.

Some families need hospital-based care for medical reasons.

Others plan to use pain relief or want the reassurance of a hospital setting.

You don’t have to miss the warmth, connection, and support of midwifery care. At many birth centers, you can receive full prenatal care even if you plan to give birth elsewhere.

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a common bacteria, and while transmission risk is generally low, factors like multiple vaginal exams or prolonged labor with ruptured membranes can increase it. In the birth center setting, we empower you to decide on antibiotic use if GBS positive, offering alternatives to help minimize transmission risks.

For labor, wear whatever is most comfortable for you, or nothing at all; options include a robe, gown, or a sports bra with easy-to-remove bottoms.

Remember to bring comfortable clothing and snacks for fuel, focusing on simple sugars and proteins. Ultimately, the goal is for you to feel at ease and well-nourished throughout the process.

Pregnancy is full of amazing moments, but let’s be real. It’s not always easy on your body. As your baby grows, your back, hips, and legs often carry the weight of all that change. If you’ve been feeling sore or out of balance, prenatal chiropractic care might be worth looking into. It’s a gentle and non-invasive method. It helps your body stay aligned and feel more comfortable as you prepare for delivery day.

At Birth Center Stone Oak in San Antonio, birth is not just a medical event. It is a transition. While we support natural labor, we also prepare for every stage. The birth cart is part of that preparation.

The birth cart is brought out during active labor, often when delivery is near. Its presence does not mean there is an emergency. It means everything is ready. With the cart nearby, the focus stays on the mother. There is no need to look for supplies or leave the room. The cart brings calm and confidence to the space.

To learn more about the birth cart, check out our blog!

Our Story

The Birth Center Stone Oak was conceived by Joi Brock who realized the need for out-of-hospital birth center options in the area after moving to San Antonio in 2000. Joi’s practice in midwifery began in 2006 and the Birth Center opened its doors in 2012 with the belief that birth is a normal process of a woman’s body – it is a joyous, celebrated occasion. A woman who feels supported, informed and respected will embrace her journey through birth with empowerment, excitement and satisfaction.
