In Texas, the attendant at a birth is responsible for filing the birth certificate. A "Verification of Birth Facts" form will be generated for you to proofread and sign, after which the birth certificate will be submitted to the state. Parents can order a copy of the birth certificate online within 3-5 days after it is released to the system, and the Social Security card will arrive in about two weeks.

Pitocin, a synthetic form of oxytocin, is commonly used in hospitals to induce or strengthen labor contractions. However, we do not use it during labor at our birth center because it can cause intense contractions without breaks, which can be difficult for both mother and baby. We do have the ability use it postpartum, administered as a shot into the thigh, to help the uterus contract more efficiently and prevent excessive bleeding.
