For Stress Awareness Month, we'd like to ask, do you think stress caused your stroke?

Stress can cause physical symptoms that may lead to having a stroke.

For example, stress can cause high blood pressure which is the biggest single risk factor for stroke.

Stress can also trigger migraines with aura and if you have migraine with aura, you are around twice as likely to have an ischaemic stroke in your lifetime compared to those without migraine.

Stress often occurs at challenging periods in our lives, so we're sorry if your stroke happened when you were already having a difficult time and we're here to listen. đź’ś

Welcome to Neurology Knowledge Fridays! Every Friday, we’ll highlight a different disorder from the Child Neurology Foundation’s Disorder Directory and other important topics related to child neurology. Join us in raising awareness and understanding of these conditions to support the children and families affected.

This Friday, we’re highlighting Childhood Stroke for Pediatric Stroke Awareness Month.

🔍 Childhood Stroke

A childhood stroke happens when blood vessels in the brain get blocked or broken, causing brain damage. Early treatment focuses on protecting the brain and keeping its blood vessels open. Most children will experience long-term neurological issues and need years of treatment.

Maternal Immune Response Affects Fetal Brain Development

Immune responses during pregnancy can alter gene regulation in the developing brain of mouse embryos.

Researchers found that maternal immune reactions are detected by microglia, which then influence surrounding brain cells.

These changes persist into juvenile stages, suggesting long-term effects on brain development.

The findings offer new insights into how maternal infections might contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders like autism and schizophrenia.
