Meet Dr. Melhem Dandan

Melhem Dandan, MD, FACOG, FAAFP, is board-certified in both OB/GYN and Family Medicine, giving him the unique training and experience needed to manage his patients at Westover Hills Womens Health in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Dandan received his medical degree in 1993 from Damascus University School of Medicine in Damascus, Syria. He completed his OB/GYN training at the University of California, Los Angeles, Kern Medical Center. Prior to that, he finished family practice residency training at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago.

After getting his board certification, he practiced medicine in Merced, California, for seven years, where he served as the medical director of a women’s health clinic and in the Department of Public Health. During this time, he was a member of the teaching faculty at the University of California, Davis, and the San Joaquin Valley Community Colleges to help train future generations of nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Dr. Dandan moved to beautiful San Antonio in 2012, where he owned and operated a successful OB/GYN clinic on the Southside for 6 years before joining forces with the Baptist Physician Network, then Steward Medical Group, and Christus Health system. He recently joined us at Westover Hills Womens Health to continue with his passion in improving the health of women in San Antonio, and deliver up to date, best Obstertrics and Gynecological medicine there is to his community. He continues to teach and is currently an associate faculty at the UIW, teaching medical students and residents in his offices and during his rounds in the hospitals.

Dr. Dandan is affiliated with several San Antonio hospitals. He performs gynecologic robotic surgeries, major pelvic and obstetrical surgeries, laparoscopic surgeries, Urinary incontinence surgeries, and numerous minimally invasive surgeries in hospital and office, like family planning procedures, aesthetics, and hormonal pellets insertions for proper candidates.

He is credentialed by most public and private insurances in OB/GYN and family Medicine.

Robin Ann Evenson, WHNP, CNM, is a dedicated and compassionate healthcare professional specializing in women’s health and midwifery at Westover Hills Women’s Health in San Antonio, Texas

Robin earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Oklahoma Baptist University and completed her Master of Science in Women’s Health to become a Nurse Practitioner in 2003. Driven to expand her expertise, she returned to school and graduated from Baylor University in 2013 with a focus on midwifery.

Outside of her practice, Robin finds joy in exploring the outdoors, cooking, reading, and traveling. Robin is honored to guide patients on their journey to wellness and motherhood.

Oh, My Aching Back: All About Round Ligament Pain During Pregnancy

Pregnancy can seem borderline magical at times, but it comes with its fair share of aches and pains, especially in the lower abdomen and back. One common culprit is round ligament pain.

If you've felt a sudden, sharp pain in your lower belly or groin while moving, stretching, or even sneezing, you’re not alone. As many as 30% of women experience round ligament pain during their pregnancies.

Meet our new provider:

Victoria Vitela, a passionate and highly skilled healthcare professional from Lubbock, Texas, is currently advancing her medical expertise as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) with Westover Hills Women’s Health. With a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Health Professions from Texas Tech University, and Master’s degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Victoria has continuously demonstrated a commitment to excellence and compassionate patient care.

Victoria’s ability to communicate fluently in Spanish has further enabled her to support diverse patient populations effectively. During her rotations, she actively supported women through a range of critical services, from conducting well-woman exams and performing endometrial biopsies to assisting in complex gynecological surgeries such as hysterectomies and C-sections. Her clinical approach prioritizes patient education, empowering women with knowledge about their health choices, whether it be through IUD or Nexplanon insertions or providing anticipatory guidance to parents and expectant mothers.

In her free time Victoria enjoys spending time with her Husband and two Shih-Tzus, as well as exploring San Antonio.

Meet Dianna Hagl
Certified Nurse Midwife, APRN

ianna graduated with her Bachelors in Science and Nursing at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and she has been a labor and delivery nurse for the past 30 years. After increasing levels of responsibility she returned to her passion for Women's Health and completed her graduate, Master's in Science, studies at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.

Dianna joined the team at Westover Hills Women's Health in March 2015 and is looking forward to a long career with Dr. Houmam Al-Hakeem and developing lasting relationships with the patients she serves.

Christy Jackson, CNM, is a certified nurse midwife at Westover Hills Women’s Health, which has locations in San Antonio, Texas. She has been taking care of mamas, babies, and families for nearly two decades!

Christy strongly believes in both a holistic and medicinal approach when caring for her patients. She is a self-proclaimed “baby whisperer” and has assisted many women navigating difficult labors and births, both medicated and unmediated.
