HNTC staff and Mike TB have their gear on and are ready to celebrate Fiesta, San Antonio style!
🎉💜🤠

Fiesta is a popular 10-day event that originated in the 1891 flower parade saluting the heroes of the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto. As the heroes of the San Antonio battles were being honored, tuberculosis remained a major issue, and efforts to begin research were just getting underway. We are Fiesta ready and focused on TB prevention and ensuring a healthier future for all!

Fact Friday from HNTC!🫁

During the 18th and 19th centuries, TB was known as "consumption". It was so common in Europe that it inspired fashion trends, with people trying to achieve a pale, gaunt look associated with the disease. A pale complexion was seen as a sign of beauty and contributed to the "consumptive chic" of the Victorian era. The romanticized association of TB with beauty during this time was a misconception. The cultural fascination with the "consumptive" look served to glamorize the disease that was deadly.
