Good morning and happy Tuesday everyone ! ๐Ÿ’›
At South Texas Healthcare, we want to take a moment to recognize National Eating Disorders Awareness Week and bring awareness to a topic that can affect individuals of all ages including older adults.

Eating disorders are often misunderstood and underdiagnosed in the geriatric population. Changes in appetite, weight loss, strict food rules, or an unhealthy relationship with food are not just โ€œnormal agingโ€ and deserve attention and care.

In older adults, eating disorders may be linked to:
โœ”๏ธ Depression or anxiety
โœ”๏ธ Grief or life transitions
โœ”๏ธ Chronic medical conditions
โœ”๏ธ Medication side effects
โœ”๏ธ Social isolation
Early recognition can improve overall health, strength, immune function, and quality of life.

Call us to schedule an appointment or speak with our team at 210-491-1690 ๐Ÿ“ž.

At South Texas Healthcare, Dr. Kasperkhan and our team are proud to recognize Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) Awareness Week and help spread knowledge about this important condition.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle weakness. It most commonly begins in early childhood and primarily affects boys, but its impact reaches families, caregivers, and communities of all ages.
While DMD is typically diagnosed in youth, awareness is vital in every stage of life. As a geriatric focused clinic, we understand the importance of:
โœ”๏ธ Supporting caregivers and multigenerational families
โœ”๏ธ Promoting heart and respiratory health monitoring
โœ”๏ธ Encouraging early screenings and genetic counseling
โœ”๏ธ Advocating for compassionate, comprehensive care
Advancements in research and treatment continue to bring hope, and awareness plays a key role in driving support and funding for families affected by DMD.

This week, we stand with patients, caregivers, and advocates. ๐Ÿ’™
Knowledge leads to understanding, and understanding leads to better care.
If you have questions about muscle weakness, family history concerns, or caregiver support resources, contact South Texas Healthcare at (210)491-1690 we are here to help !
