As a San Antonio native who grew up on the South Side, Valerie sincerely knows the strength and courage it takes to accept when one can’t handle parts of life. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology-Molecular Biology Specialization from Texas Lutheran University where she was on track to attend medical school. After graduating from Texas Lutheran, however, she put medical school on hold to

answer God’s call to do missionary work in South Africa for a year. While living in Umphumulo, South Africa, she learned what it means to accompany others in their journey and the importance of “Ubuntu” (brotherhood/humanity) to others. Upon her return home, she worked with adolescents/young adults on the West Side of town, which led to her decision to pursue counseling where she received a Master’s Degree from Wayland Baptist University at the San Antonio Campus. Her Christian-influenced, higher education has helped her understand the significance of integrating psychology with Christian values. Working in public education for 5+ years, Valerie has experience with adolescents, young adults, adults, and families. Also, having 5 years experience in the medical field has given her a knowledge base and experience in serving others with chronic illnesses. This unique position has fueled her desire to expand and accompany those living alongside: Chronic Illness(es), Caretaker concerns, Infertility issues, IVF, Miscarriage, Child Loss, First Responders & their Families, Trauma, Abuse, Neglect, Domestic Violence, Anxiety, Depression, Adjustments, Stress, & more. FOCUS: Clinical and Christian Counseling, Chronic Illness, Chronic Pain, Infertility Issues, Miscarriage, Child Loss, IVF, PreMarital, Marriage, Family, Divorce, First Responder Issues, Cancer, HIV/AIDS, Diabetes, Visual Impairment or Blindness, Abuse, Trauma, Domestic Violence, Adjustment, Anxiety, Grief and Loss, Women’s Issues, Self-Esteem, Adolescents, Young Adults

Something to think about that came across my news feed...

The man👨🏽‍🦱doesn’t know that there is a snake 🐍underneath.
The woman🙍🏽‍♀️doesn’t know that there is a stone crushing the man.
The woman🙎🏼‍♀️thinks: “I am going to fall! And I can’t climb because the snake 🐍is going to bite me! Why can’t the man 🧔🏼use a little more strength and pull me up!” The man 🧑🏾‍🦲thinks: “I am in so much pain! Yet I’m still pulling you as much as I can! Why don’t you try and climb a little harder!?”

The moral is: you can’t see the pressure the other person is under, and the other person can’t see the pain you’re in.
This is life, whether it’s with work, family, feelings, or friends... we should TRY to understand each other.
Learn to think differently, perhaps, more clearly and communicate better. A little thought and patience goes a long way.

I know it has been a while since our last post... however, we want you to know that we are still praying for healing amongst you and your goals. Knowing the power of Christ can be a strong defense against things that just keep us "falling down." So... here's some things to keep in mind. May you remember that, "one day at a time," can lead to years of healing.

Apology is more than just, "I'm sorry."

1. What are you apologizing for?
Specifically identifying and taking ownership of the hurt, whether consciously OR unconsciously done, can be a game changer in reconnecting.

2. Follow through.
It takes time to regain trust, and to be believed changed behavior is the best way to SHOW apology and accept responsibility.

There are lots of details in between both 1 & 2 also... let's talk!

Every year ends and another begins... ready or not! It's here we tend to find ourselves relfecting and planning and making goals. If you’re struggling or if you just started something new like dieting, a hobby, a marriage or anything worthwhile; don’t stop nourishing your efforts.

It takes time to compound. It takes hard work, sweat, tears, and sometimes a little luck. Most of all, it takes FAITH!! The belief in something yet unseen.

Get a running mate, surround yourself with people who love and support you… NO MATTER WHAT!

Lastly, reach out.

This can be a challenge if you have been disappointed time and time again. If you need encouragement, a hug, a lunch, or just to vent... you gotta take the chance to let someone know and see who will reciprocate you. I believe in you... keep trying!!
