The factors leading to prominent ears are present at birth - cartilage excesses and area of imbalance between the strong and weak areas of the cartilage. While the ear shape has little impact on actual hearing, it can be a tremendous source of insecurity and unfortunate ridicule for many patients.

For this women in her 50’s, she had always wanted to have more symmetry and balance to her ears, taking the emphasis away from her ears and placing it back where it should belong - her eyes and face! Through an otoplasty procedure that combined cartilage and skin excision, along with cartilage reshaping, her ears are no longer a distraction and source of insecurity for her.

Patients commonly present with an interest in improving the appearance of their lower eyelids. As we age, our skin thins, fat pads in the cheeks descend and deflate, unmasking the bony rim under the lower eyelid, and the underlying fat pockets in the eye socket begin to pooch forward.

Simply “cutting out skin” is NOT the answer. In many patients like this woman, fat can be reduced or relocated through an incision INSIDE the eyelid without an external incision.

In this case, her orbital fat pockets were reduced. Then utilizing fat harvested from her abdomen, micro-fat grafts were injected to fill the remaining hollows and smooth the transition between the lower eyelid and the cheek. Fat injections . . . like icing on a cake!
