A Life-Changing Experience at Vision Therapy of San Antonio
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the incredible team at Vision Therapy of San Antonio—especially Miss Melody Director of Vision Therapy Services and Miss Barbara. 💙 They have truly changed my daughter Elara’s life.
Elara was diagnosed with Dyslexia in 2022 during 5th grade, but her struggles began much earlier. By 3rd grade, she was forgetting foundational information she had already learned in 1st grade. It was heartbreaking. Her teacher was concerned, we were homeschooling during the pandemic, and remote learning just wasn’t working for her.
By the time she returned to school, her teacher did everything she could to help Elara catch up, but nothing was sticking. We eventually went through the long process of having her evaluated by the school psychologist, which led to a diagnosis of:
• Dyslexia
• Short-term memory loss
• Phonetic awareness

In 5th grade, she began receiving IEP accommodations and tutoring. The school had a solid plan, and we were hopeful. But deep down, I still felt there was something more.

One day, I was talking to a client (I’m an esthetician, and we talk about everything—including our families), and I shared Elara’s story. That client shared her own family’s journey—her sister had been misdiagnosed with Dyslexia, and it turned out to be an undiagnosed vision issue. She told me about Vision Therapy of San Antonio, and something just clicked. I called immediately.
From the very first appointment, I felt hopeful. Elara was evaluated and diagnosed with:
• Convergence Insufficiency
• Bilateral Hypermetropia
• Exophoria
These caused symptoms like:
• Eye-teaming problems
• Difficulty focusing
• Double vision
• Reduced depth perception and visual processing
All of which were directly affecting her ability to read, focus, and remember what she learned.
She began vision therapy with Miss Melody and was later evaluated by the therapeutic optometrist, Dr. Deviney, who prescribed specialized glasses with prisms. We were recommended 30 sessions of therapy.
From day one, Elara loved therapy. It was fun and engaging. Every week we had homework to continue the exercises at home—and we took that part seriously. We worked hard, and it paid off.
Within just a few weeks, we saw a dramatic difference. Her grades began improving. Her confidence grew. And by the end of 7th grade, she passed with A’s and B’s—something that felt impossible just a year before.
And the best part?
She didn’t even need the full 30 sessions! She made such incredible progress that she graduated after just 15. Miss Melody’s re-evaluation results were absolutely stunning.
Today, Elara doesn’t need to be pulled out for Dyslexia tutoring anymore. She now loves chapter books, her memory is sharp, and she’s even been placed in advanced classes for 8th grade in Science and ELA! ✨📚
Miss Melody and Miss Barbara—thank you for being our angels. Your care, patience, and dedication gave our daughter the chance to thrive. You gave us our bright, curious, and confident girl back.
To any parent reading this and feeling lost:
This program is worth every single penny and every single mile driven. We are so grateful we took this leap. We now understand how crucial vision is to learning.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 💙 we miss you all already!
—A forever grateful parents ❤️

Occasionally I will get asked my background and how someone becomes certified as a vision therapist. If you’ve ever wondered how your therapist earned the letters behind their name, this explains it well.

“When you’re a struggling reader, there’s no amount of motivation that can power you through the sludge of an opening paragraph. Because no matter how intrigued you may be by the topic, when you get to around here, t h e w ord s b e g i n t o f a l t e r.”

Many struggling readers have poor eye coordination and/or cannot control their focus on demand. Vision Therapy fixes these problems within a few months, but you need to find a vision therapy team that can test for these issues. Like us!

Republicans are trying to cut the resources that help struggling readers.
