Review

In the coming months, I am trying to make a big push with Mentally Tougher.

Because I don’t film or record my sessions to protect privacy, reviews are one of the few ways I can show prospective groups the value of the training.

If you can spare 5 minutes, are you willing to leave a short review about your experience? It doesn’t have to be long, just a few sentences about what stood out to you or what you took away?

If so, please just shoot me a DM and I will send you two links. One is Google and one is Facebook. You can literally copy and paste for review if you'd like.

I'm doing it this way because I'd like to keep the reviews to people who have actually attended for transparency purposes.

Thank you for helping me continue this work! 🙏🏼

Invitation

In this line of work, being invited matters.

You don’t just walk into a firehouse, a police department, or a tactical team’s world. You earn your way in.

Last time I was in Cincinnati, working with the fire department, I was invited to dinner with the 38’s.

They didn’t have to do that.

That invitation tells me I’m doing something right—because trust isn’t given out for free in their world.

It’s one thing to be hired to train.
It’s another thing to be welcomed at the table.

A Favor

Cleveland area friends — I am asking for your help.

For the past decade, I’ve worked with soldiers and first responders, training them how to perform at their best and cope with the weight the job carries over time.

In light of the recent tragedies in the Northeast Ohio first responder community, I would like to offer a free training session for any first responder who wants to attend.

All I need is a donated space — a simple room that can hold 50-75 people with chairs (tables would be great) for 8 hours. No A/V required.

If you can connect me with someone who can provide this, please message me directly so we can make it happen.

SNAKEBIT

The snake bit.

Good.

Now you know exactly what they are.

No illusions. No excuses. No “maybe they didn’t mean it.”

Betrayal is the cleanest cut you’ll ever get. It severs the tie you should’ve dropped long ago.

They showed you their true colors in the most disrespectful way possible… and that’s the only way you were ever going to believe it.

Anything softer, and you’d still be wasting time on who you wished they were instead of accepting who they are.

Lesson learned. Move on.

Longsuffering

I heard a word this weekend that I hadn’t thought about in a while: longsuffering.

Not a word you see on shirts or in hashtags. It’s not flashy. It’s not marketable. But it might be one of the most accurate descriptions of what real resilience actually looks like.

Longsuffering isn’t about one bad day or a hard week.

It’s not the highlight reel or the bounce back story.
It’s the grind between.

It’s the version of resilience that doesn’t quit, even when there’s no clear sign that things will get better.

It’s pain that doesn’t scream, but stays.
And still chooses to show up.

Longsuffering is choosing patience when the situation doesn’t deserve it.

It’s staying kind in the middle of chaos.
It’s holding the line when no one sees the effort.
It’s love, commitment, and grit—on a delay.

Reflections

Father's Day means something a little different to me now. Not just because of the dad who raised me, but the roles I've tried (and sometimes failed) to play in other people's lives.

This blog post is about the men who step in without a manual, the lessons learned the hard way, and the impact we leave even when we don't get it all right.

PHASE 2

In two weeks, we roll out Phase 2 for first responders.

I strongly recommend you've been through Phase 1, as there will be many tie-backs.

Times: 0800 - 1600

This one may test you both physically and mentally, so come in appropriate clothing. It's been approved, don't worry.

Spread the word around your firehouse/district because we all know y'all don't check your emails. I don't want to hear, "I didn't know it was happening"!

Let me know if you have any questions!

See you there.

Empathy

Mark Scheifele lost his dad hours before Game 7.
He still played. He even scored.
Then he broke down in the handshake line.

Even the guy who sucker-punched him the game before stopped to offer condolences.

That wasn’t weakness.
That was strength in its rawest form.

First responders know this feeling.
You take the hit. Push through. Keep showing up.

But pushing through doesn’t mean you have to do it alone.

Empathy doesn’t make you soft.
It makes you last.

Praise

In high-stress environments, communication can make or break a team.

It’s not just about calling out mistakes—it’s just as vital to highlight what went right.

Effective praise:

Reinforces strong habits
Builds confidence under pressure
Boosts morale and team cohesion
Keeps your crew aligned and accountable
Reinforces resilience and readiness

But not all praise is equal. Be specific. Be sincere. Be timely.

Recognition isn’t soft—it’s strategic.

Watch how Coach Sean McVay highlights his players’ IQ, traits, and skillsets.

Whether you’re a rookie or a veteran, this kind of feedback keeps us sharp—and in tactical environments, keeps people safe.

Skills, Not "Hacks"

This isn’t a game.

This is performance.
This is pressure.
This is your real life—on the line, under fire, and in the arena.

We don’t peddle shortcuts.
We train skills.

Real, tested, pressure-resistant skills that hold up when things get hard.

Mental toughness isn’t hacked. It’s earned.

Redefining Gratitude

Gratitude is often framed as journaling what went well. But in tactical professions—where chaos is routine and quiet wins often go unnoticed—traditional gratitude practices don’t always land.

Here’s a powerful shift:

Focus on contribution, not just reflection.

Ask yourself:

Who did I support today?

Where did my leadership make a difference?

How did I show up for others?

This is contribution-based gratitude—a mindset built for leaders who don’t always get a thank you, but keep showing up anyway.

It’s not soft. It’s sustaining.

Lead with impact. Reflect with purpose.
