Heart Health Tip #2

An active lifestyle and maintaining a healthy weight are two important factors that help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

According to guidelines from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, adults should aim for 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-level physical activity per week, which adds up to about 20 to 30 minutes per day.

Incorporating regular physical activity into your day can help reduce chronic inflammation, slow the progression of diabetes, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and help keep weight under control.

Don't be afraid to ask what those numbers mean for your risk of heart disease and what adjustments you can make to improve your cardiovascular health.

Did you know, your skin requires extra attention in the winter?

As colder temps arrive, here are some steps you can take to ensure your skin and wounds are protected from the elements.

1. Moisturizing - As the air becomes drier, we encourage additional skin moisturizing.

2. Circulation - Colder temps can mean more time spent indoors and less time moving, it is important to continue to be active and place a greater focus on exercise.

3. Protection - Ensure extra protective measures are taken to prevent friction from clothing and cold exposure.

4. Monitoring - The lower temps can cause a reduction in sensitivity, so it is important to increase monitoring for signs of delayed healing.

5. Hydration - Dehydration slows healing rates so ensure you are drinking enough water to keep skin hydrated.
