📣 An individual can be eligible for both Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor benefits simultaneously.

HOWEVER;

due to the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) “dual entitlement” rule, you cannot receive the full amount of both benefits at the same time. Instead, the SSA will pay the higher of the two benefit amounts. 

Here’s how it works:
✔️ If your SSDI benefit is higher than your potential survivor benefit: You will continue to receive your SSDI benefit, and the survivor benefit will not be paid. 
✔️ If your survivor benefit is higher than your SSDI benefit: You will receive your full SSDI benefit plus an additional amount from the survivor benefit to equal the higher survivor benefit amount. This means the SSA supplements your SSDI benefit with the difference between the two, effectively providing you with the higher benefit. 

📝 It’s important to note that while you may be entitled to both benefits, the total amount received will not exceed the highest single benefit to which you are entitled.

💵 This policy ensures that beneficiaries receive the maximum benefit allowable without duplicating payments.
