Celebrating Juneteenth: A Day of Reflection and Celebration
Juneteenth, observed on June 19th, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, with the news that the Civil War had ended and that the enslaved were now free—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
This day is not just a celebration of freedom, but also a time to reflect on the ongoing journey toward equality and justice. It is a reminder of the resilience, strength, and contributions of African Americans throughout history and in our present day.
As we honor Juneteenth, let's commit to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within our organization and our communities. Let’s take this opportunity to educate ourselves, engage in meaningful conversations, and support initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
