If you are looking for a way to enjoy some special bonding time with your little one (ages 6 months to 24 months) while supporting their early language development, please join me this summer for Sign and Play. Sign and Play is a 6-week, infant/toddler and caregiver program that will introduce everything you need to know to start signing- using American Sign Language (ASL)- with your baby. Bay Area families and educators, I encourage you to attend the screening and panel discussion of The Right to Read being sponsored by the Redwood City Library Foundation & The Redwood City Library Board this coming Monday, November 6th. “The most recent national assessment of educational progress (NAEP) study on student achievement in literacy- or “The Nation’s Report Card,” found 37% of America’s children were reading at the below basic level.” The data, when separated by race and socioeconomic status shows an even bleaker picture for our children. “The same assessment also measure that 70% of fourth graders who are identified as students with disabilities are reading below basic level. In simple terms, reading at “below basic” means a student cannot read.”(Adapted from The Right to Read Discussion Guide)
