Today’s “toy” is a classic: paper towel rolls — simple, sturdy, and perfect for play!

Swipe through to see me using the “toy” and then my little imitating me and using it herself!

Imitation is one of the earliest building blocks of language. When our kids copy our actions, sounds, and gestures, they’re practicing the skills they’ll later use for words, turn-taking, and conversations.

Paper towel rolls make it easy (and fun!) to imitate:
👉 Tap like a drum
👉 Talk through it like a megaphone
👉 Roll objects through
👉 Pretend it’s a telescope

Simple play, powerful learning. 🧡

Building off last weeks muffin tin Toy Tuesday!

My daughter is obsessed with these fun little hair bands and likes to carry them around, and put them into whatever container she can find! This type of “dumping” and “in and out” play supports cause and effect learning, early matching and sorting, and fine motor skills (especially for wrist flexion and pressure grading!). She calls them “oh flowers!” Instead of hair bands, and we talk about basic concepts (quantity, size, location, quality, etc). Pairing them with a silicone tray led to 20 min of quiet, focused play while I got her lunch ready!

🧁 Toy Tuesday: Muffin Tin Magic! ✨

Who knew a simple muffin tin could be such a speech + language booster? 🙌

Try these fun ideas at home:
Sorting & Categorizing: Place small toys, snacks, or pom poms by color, shape, or category (“foods,” “animals,” “things that go”).
Requesting: “I need the blue one!” or “Can you give me the car?”
Following Directions: “Put the ball in the first cup,” “Take the spoon out of the last one.”
Expanding Vocabulary: Talk about full/empty, big/small, top/bottom, and more!

Simple, screen-free, and packed with opportunities for connection and communication 💬💛

🎃 Toy Tuesday: Halloween Candy Edition! 🍭

Got leftover Halloween candy? Use it to boost speech and language skills at home! 💬✨

Here are a few fun ideas:

Requesting: “I want the red one!” or “Can I have candy?”
Describing: “It’s sticky, sweet, crunchy, or chewy.”
Sorting & Counting: Group by color, size, or type, perfect for early concepts!
Following Directions: “Put two chocolates in the bowl and one under the napkin.”

The sweetest part? Your child won’t even realize they’re learning while playing 🍫💛
