Thorny by name, thorny by nature

The thorny devil (Moloch horridus) is the sole species in the genus Moloch and can grow up to 21cm long. Their sharp thorns make a perfect defence mechanism while they're snacking on ants or sucking up water through their legs and down into their mouths! Yes you read that right. They live in arid scrubland and desert, covering most of central Australia. This includes the Northern Territory, where they are one of many amazing reptiles that call the Top End home.
