Join the SDPA Fall Conference on October 3rd, 2025 and learn from Sam Rodriguez as they speak about “From the Ranks to the Margins: Healing Trans Military Trauma.”
Sam Rodriguez (they/them) is a U.S. Navy veteran and California Associate Clinical Social Worker. With 10 years of service, including 8 years openly as a transgender, nonbinary service member, Sam has navigated two military bans, the second of which resulted in forced separations. They bring lived experience and advocacy leadership, including as Membership Director for SPARTA Pride.
In this CE session, psychologists will explore the trauma of forced discharge, gender marker reversal, and systemic discrimination, learning how to provide trauma-informed support for transgender and gender-diverse service members.
Questions to Spark Your Curiosity:
- What does it feel like to face forced separation due to being transgender?
- How can psychologists intervene when policy itself causes trauma?
- How can lived experience reshape care for transgender and gender-diverse service members?
