The Lyme community is grieving the sudden loss of Dr. Charles Crist, a dedicated healer, advocate, and beacon of hope for so many.

For more than 30 years in Ashland, Missouri, he compassionately treated complex tick-borne illnesses like Lyme disease, helping over 11,000 patients and dozens of LymeLight grant recipients who had often faced years of misdiagnosis, dismissal, and despair. He was renowned for truly listening, spending hours with each person to uncover root causes and craft personalized paths to healing when others had given up.

Our deepest condolences to his family, staff, and all whose worlds he brightened. Thank you, Dr. Crist, for your extraordinary heart and dedication. 💚🕊️

Fact is that THIS IS THE DEADLIEST CREATURE IN THE FOREST...

TICKS!!!! So small yet, so Dangerous...and If it’s got a little white spot on it’s back, OH BOY!! Batten down the hatches. Your immune system is about to go to war. The Lone Star Tick is the one with the spot on it's back and it's causes Alpha-Gal.

Forget Lyme. Lyme Disease sucks but it's no Alpha-Gal.

Alpha-Gal causes an allegry to beef, pork, and lamb...and it can kill you. Especially, if you don't know that you have been infected. A Pilot and avid day hiker was found dead recently by his son. He was laying in a pile of his own vomit in the bathroom after coming home from dinner with his family. It was the second time that he had gotten sick from meat and still had no idea that he was infected...and it led to his death.

You'll hear a plethora of voices screaming for you to treat everything you carry and wear with Permetherin. I'm not part of that chorus of voices. I've used Permetherin and I've seen ticks crawling on my clothing and my tent within a week of using it. It's a scam in my opinion because IT DOES NOT WORK...If it does, that's news to me....and it surely isn't 100% based on my experience.

The Only 100% safe way to avoid these ticks and these diseases is not to have any pets, don't leave the house, and wrap yourself in bubble wrap. We're not doing that....What will help is to make sure that you do a thorough Tick Check every single time you go into the woods. For Thru Hikers and Section Hikers, Do It Every Single Day. Wear Hats and Bandanas to cover your hair, wear tight clothing and Be Vigilant....Your Life is at Stake.

Whether you die or just get sick with a disease that will last a lifetime, it's a terrible thing to have to endure as a price for walking thru the great forests and trails of this world...Protect Yourself and Pay Attention ...It Will Make All of The Difference!
