Today, pickleball, which is hybrid of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, is the fastest-growing sport in America. With the rise in popularity of pickleball, physical therapists throughout the country are seeing an increase in injuries.
Pickleball largely involves quick movement spurts of one to two steps either forward and backward or side to side. These quick changes in direction can place significant demands on the hamstring and adductors, meniscus of the knee, Achilles tendons, and plantar fascia. As a result, some common acute injuries across all pickleball players include adductor strains, sprained ankles, and Achilles ruptures. Some chronic, repetitive injuries include knee pain, hamstring and adductor strains, Achilles tendinopathy, and plantar fasciitis. Low back pain, pickleball elbow and wrist fractures also are reported often by pickleball players.
If you need to stay or get back on the court in this fast-growing sport, Community Care Physical Therapy is here and we look forward to helping you work towards your goals.
