Preparedness is perinatal care. Climate resilience is birth equity. Environmental justice is maternal health justice. 🌎🌱💚💙
We were honored to share Project 360: Centering Perinatal Health Through Emergency Preparedness at the UC Riverside Maternal & Planetary Health Symposium, led by Dr. Jade Sasser. Alongside researchers, practitioners, advocates, and community leaders, we highlighted how Healthy Start programs can serve as a critical bridge between climate adaptation and maternal health equity—and how preparedness itself functions as infant mortality prevention.
Grateful to the organizers and fellow presenters for grounding this work in research, policy, and lived experience, and committed to continuing to build systems that protect families when it matters most.

Environmental factors like extreme heat, air quality, water safety, and disasters shape pregnancy, birth, and postpartum outcomes—yet these realities are too often overlooked.
At Global Communities Healthy Start, we recognize that environmental justice is maternal health justice. Preparedness is not about fear—it’s about dignity, safety, and equity for families most impacted by climate and environmental stressors.
This week, we recommit to:
• Centering perinatal needs in climate and emergency planning
• Elevating community‑led solutions
• Preparing families and systems before crisis hits
