Look who made the UT Blog! 🎨 🙌🏼 ✨❤️

Union-Tribune contributing photographer Kristian Carreon captured volunteers and artists painting a new mural at Waterfront Park.

The mural is a collaboration between adult artists with developmental disabilities, muralist Hanna Gundrum, a creative mentor at nonprofit Revision and the county of San Diego.

It includes multiple symbols the artists felt show inclusion, including an infinity sign representing the infinite potential for people with autism.

For all our moms, dads, and caregivers who’ve accepted the challenge that is social distance learning. Hang in there!

As a family who chose to homeschool our two older children, I can assure you that what we are doing right now is NOT homeschooling.
Homeschooling is a blessing. I don’t know what to call this thing we’re doing right now, but it’s not feeling like a blessing.
You see, homeschooling is a choice that a family makes when they are properly set up to spend the time and energy schooling their children at home.
Also, when homeschooling, the parent IS the teacher...which means the parent selects the curriculum and designs a schedule that works for the entire family.
During this pandemic, many parents are now being forced to work from home and simultaneously meet all the educational needs of their children...with little to no say in how things are being implemented.
This is hard.
This is NOT homeschooling.
This is EMERGENCY schooling. And it’s all we’ve got at the moment. But we need to stop calling it homeschooling, because it’s giving the concept of homeschooling a bad name.
