Unity of Three is moving to South Park!

After almost 13 years at my Adams Avenue location, the 2911 owners informed all of the tenants that they had sold the building. And unfortunately, the new owners are going to be tearing it down in order to build condos. This was very sad news for me, as this office has been an integral part of my life and practice for a very long time. I will definitely miss the time I’ve spent there, and I know many of you will miss it too. It is a cool, quirky little building, and it suited my personality and work very well. So, with some regret I am letting you all know that today, Saturday June 25, will be my last day at the Adams Avenue office.

However, after searching over the last month or so I have finally found a wonderful new location in South Park. It is in a space called Haven Collective, and is located at:

1531 Fern Street San Diego, CA 92102

The space is beautifully set up, and it feels very warm and welcoming as soon as you step into the building. It’s much quieter than the space on Adams Avenue, which will be especially conducive to craniosacral therapy sessions. There are two parking spaces available to clients, but if those are in use the street parking is much easier than it was on Adams. The neighborhood is very beautiful, peaceful, and pleasant to walk through. There are also lots of great restaurants and coffee shops nearby to visit before or after your appointment.

So, starting next Tuesday June 28, all future sessions will take place at the new South Park location. I will be texting the new address with all confirmation texts for several months just to make sure that everyone is reminded of the change and that there is no confusion. I truly think that once you experience the new location, I know that you will be just as pleased with the new location as I am.

I will be adding some new resource material to the website soon talking a bit more about the new location, and also posting a few new client resource videos once I move into the new space.

As always, thank you for your support, and I look forward to reconnecting with you soon.

In health,

James Armour

Unity of Three is officially reopening!

Governor Newsom declared that beginning Friday June 20, 2020, massage therapy services can resume in the State of California with permission from the respective counties. After a soft opening on Friday and Saturday to test compliance with the new rules and regulations, I am officially reopening Tuesday, June 23.

Here are some of the major changes that California is instituting to help keep everyone safe and minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19:
- Mandatory facemask or face coverings for both the therapist and the client during the entire session
- Enhanced sanitation practices for the room, therapist, and clients
- Temperature checks for both clients and therapists before every appointment, as well as a checklist of screening questions

In addition, I am instituting the following optional measures for greater safety:
- Changing out aprons between clients so there is no incidental common contact surfaces
- Adding a new HEPA air purifier with optional UV light
- Allowing extra time in between sessions to ventilate the room

While the new State and County guidelines, as well as my additional safeguards, will greatly limit the risk of COVID-19 exposure, despite our best efforts there still is a chance of contracting the virus. For this reason, I strongly suggest each client research the latest information about COVID-19 on a regular basis to determine if it is safe for them to receive bodywork at this time. Here are a few links to help you make that determination:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
County of San Diego Guidelines:

Together, we can ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone. I look forward to connecting (and re-connecting) with you all!

Sincerely,
James Armour, CMT #1160

COVID-19 UPDATE

Early this morning (3/16/2020), the California Massage Therapy Council issued guidance to all California certified massage therapists strongly recommending them to discontinue massage sessions until further notice. This was a day after the Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement encouraging all Californians to socially distance and to end all non-essential business (especially business that makes social distancing impossible). The same guidance has been issued in other professional organizations I belong to, in other countries, and by the CDC and WHO.

As such, I will be temporarily suspending all non-emergency massage therapy sessions.

This is not a decision I reached lightly, and I still have conflicting feelings about it. All things being equal, I would very much prefer to be working and providing therapy to help my clients. Most of you who have worked with me in the past know that I almost never cancel my sessions. Even when I am feeling ill, I usually am available for my clients, and I notify them about my health status and allow them to make an informed decision on potential health risks about whether or not to keep the session.

But COVID 19 is different… One one hand, there doesn’t seem to be a high risk of mortality for most people, and many people who get sick appear to make a full recovery. On the other hand, there is currently debate about the degree of damage it does to the lungs, and to what degree that damage is reversible for younger healthy people as well as older or immunocompromised people after recovery. Most experts also agree that there will almost assuredly be another mutation in the virus (currently there are two known strains, with one being more serious than the other. Nobody knows if the next mutation will be more or less dangerous to our health). Most importantly, I would feel terrible if, despite my best sanitation practices, I still unwittingly became a vector for this transmission that wound up making someone else seriously ill or causing their death. For all of these reasons, I ultimately I feel it’s important to make sure that we are all doing our part to help prevent the spread of this coronavirus, and hopefully our unified actions now will bring a quicker resolution to this pandemic and keep the rate of infections as low as we can until there is a dependable prevention and treatment protocol available.

If you have an acute pain condition or flare-up please feel free to contact me… If I can offer any virtual help or assistance I will be happy to do so. If you are in a crisis situation with pain or a flare-up, please let me know and we can see what accommodations we might be able to make for your situation after discussing current guidelines, risk factors, and enhanced sanitation options.

In the meantime, I encourage you all to help support yourselves by getting as much rest as you can, eating well, and doing your best to remain calm and centered during this difficult time. We will get through it 🙂

Sincerely,

James Armour
