My Oma

Somewhere I read that one of the most protective factors for a little person is to know that there is at least one person in this world whose eyes light up when they see them. To the one whose eyes lit up brightest. Every. Single. Time. To the one who somehow saw the most precious version of me that I kept hidden & celebrated it fiercely. To the one that blew warm air with the hair dryer down the backs of our pjs and whispered goodnight in German. To the one that taught me to take absolutely no s**t. To my other mother. I miss you incessantly.

My momma ♥️🌹♥️

Lover & grower of the flowers and children in her world.

We are not without our differences but she is the one human who has shown up for me in some of my hardest moments, without question or hesitation. Often without even needing to request. Not always perfectly, but she’s there. My safety net. My anchor.

Grateful for your teachings and for your presence in my life.

Thank you for being you. For being mine. I love you.

Little loves!

Meet these two teensy darlings who recently snuck into my life…

Things I am learning about baby bunnies: they like to eat green things and they like to eat A LOT, they are remarkably snuggly, and they are ridiculously cute.

The sunrise will forever have my heart.

I love the quiet freshness of the morning, the untapped potential of a day. The quality of light when it is first born.

It’s my sacred time to be myself, to be with the world the way I like it most, and to envision magic infiltrating the entirety of the day.

some silence in me broke today
and I’m sitting here in stillness
like if I move too much
all the sad will shatter
and rise up
for some higher good
and I won’t be able to wear it as a face anymore

some silence in me broke today
and I’m sitting here
holding against new breath
because if I leave this posture of the skin that I’ve known
all that will be left
is naked love
kissing the winged back
of my every heartbeat
like a life that begs of you to live it
and a mother that insists on your freedom
ushering you out of midnight caves
and into the daybreak of your own heart

so I’m sitting here
daring myself
to move just a little
to let my chest free fall
from the great height of the illusion of my prison tower
like a grand white waterfall
flooding me
with with so much more of myself

all this
because you loved me
and I can receive it now

The beauty and quality of life is created in the little things, the attention to detail and the practice of consistency. And revolution, expansion, and exponential connection happens in those big moments.

The tendency can be to focus on one or the other.

We need both at once to thrive.

You are not leaving,
even as the light
fades quickly now,

in my eyes,
you are always
arriving.

Spring. Nostalgia. Heaven scent. Home.

Grateful for my human senses in this spring time of burgeoning lushness and life.

A life conundrum for the wild among us…

What should I do about the wild and the tame? The wild heart that wants to be free, and the tame heart that wants to come home. I want to be held. I don't want you to come too close. I want you to scoop me up and bring me home at nights. I don't want to tell you where I am. I want to keep a place among the rocks where no one can find me. I want to be with you.

I’ve been away from everything for a bit…
Deep in grief, deep and down and in it.

Stepping out of the darkness, for a moment anyway, to offer this simple statement. One of my own.

Maybe the secret to a life of contentment.

So simple.

Not so easy.

Like most essential things.

For me, wanting what I have will be a lifelong practice. To truly and consistently embody this. But in the moments I can get there, it can be a touchstone back to sanity. To peace.

My mantra in times of unhelpful comparison, anxiety about future fulfillment of desires. Times of loss, mindsets of scarcity, rising fear, deep suffering.

I hope it can bring some peace to you, too.

Love,
A
