đź’ĄIntroducing, Dr Annie Lyon! đź’ĄShe is our newest IGO physician and we are thrilled to have her on board. Today I asked her about a hypertensive disorder that complicates pregnancy. Preeclampsia is a pregnancy specific disorder that is caused by abnormalities in the placenta that can lead to hypertension, multi organ injury, fetal growth restriction, seizures, and HELLP syndrome. Delivery is the only cure and, thankfully, most patients do not develop these complications until the late third trimester. But preeclampsia is a cause of up to 15 percent of preterm deliveries. If you are wondering why we have to see you so often in the last 5 weeks of your pregnancy or why we keep insisting on taking your blood pressure, now you know that we are checking for signs or symptoms of preeclampsia. Dr Lyon is so excited to be living and working in San Diego and she is interested in ALL aspects of obstetrics and gynecology and looks forward to developing long lasting relationships with her patients. Dr Lyon is yet another amazing IGO doctor to refer your friends to!!

Yay, today is Part 2 of our "Ask our Ask our doctors series! Today, Dr Sarah Wilkinson answers some questions about IUD's. These Intrauterine devices (that's what IUD stands for) are wonderful options for birth control but also help to decrease bleeding and pain with periods. They are a great "set it and forget it" form of birth control and are incredibly effective, being over 99 percent effective in preventing pregnancy. IGO doctors love them as an option for so many patients. We have great ways to ease your discomfort during placement but as Dr Wilkinson said the majority of patients do quite well during placement even without these options. And the best things about them: they are reversible and long lasting. Talk to your IGO doc if you have any further questions.

For decades, IUD insertions have been performed without analgesia or anesthesia. While many patients say that they had minimal discomfort, many more say that it is extremely uncomfortable, painful, or anxiety provoking. The docs at IGO have been loving using Pronox, a combination of Nitrous oxide and oxygen, as an analgesic. It is patient controlled and lowers discomfort, stress, and anxiety during the procedure. And you can drive yourself home right after! You might even giggle a little. Ask your IGO doctor about this option for any in office procedures such as IUD placement, Colposcopy, endometrial biopsies, or restorative gynecology procedures. It's safe and effective , and we've had a few patients even say it was fun. 🤩 🤣

I have never been as proud to be an Iranian as I am today. We are witnessing our 41st day of a woman led revolution, with men, and children standing up in solidarity against a sadistic patriarchal regime. We are no longer going to accept anything but freedom to be whatever we want to be. Iranian women are some of the most educated, intelligent, and brave women in this world. They are no longer going to be oppressed, harassed, jailed, beaten, and murdered. This Revolution will change the course of history for the world. We need to stand in solidarity with these incredible women who are fighting for basic rights. And if we do, we will realize that we can also fight for the freedoms and the opportunities that we don’t have in the rest of the world. This is a historic moment. Please share their voices. Sign petitions to help change our government’s policies and involvement with the Islamic regime. Together we can change the world.

Save the date! November 16!! Join your favorite doctors of IGO at Kettner Exchange for a memorable night (and some cocktails🎉)to raise money for one of our favorite charities, Mary’s House in Vietnam.

In 2012, Dr. Robertson and her wife Jen Flynn started Mary’s House, a foster home for girls in DaNang, Vietnam. Generous donations have helped support over 60 children, and 6 now college grads!

For the first time since 2019, we are back doing a live fundraiser!

All of the money raised goes directly to the kids.  Mary’s House is run through the 501(c)3 non-profit Giving It Back to Kids.  Local staff look after the girls like family and take care of all of their daily needs.  Mary’s House relies completely on the support of our generous donor community to provide food, housing, health care, counseling for life skills, school tutoring, after school activities, and secondary education after the girls finish high school.

Please join us for an amazing evening November 16th at Kettner Exchange. We would love to see any of you there!!

Hi, this is Dr Gafori. As an Iranian woman and a gynecologist it’s hard for me not to say anything about the misogynistic hateful crimes that are occurring in my homeland. Since 1979 women in Iran have been forced by the religious regime to wear hejabs to cover their hair. For years women have been harassed, imprisoned, and tortured if they were thought to be unsuitably dressed or even if a lock of their hair showed from under their hejab. Recently, a young woman named Mahsa Amini who was traveling with her family was detained by Iran’s “morality police” and beaten until she suffered brain damage and a heart attack. After being hospitalized in a coma she died a few days later. Mahsa is not the first Iranian to suffer such a fate but her name and her story have become a cry for change. Women in Tehran have risen in protest, calling out for change, and burning their hejabs as they march through the streets. They ask for, or should I say, demand the freedom to have control over their bodies, to be able to feel the sunlight on their hair, to not be harassed and unjustly imprisoned. Their bravery is astonishing to me because they are risking their lives with every word of protest. Iranians have had access to the cellular services and the internet taken from them so that the world cannot see the heinous crimes against humanity that the government is perpetrating. This is no longer just an Iranian story. This needs to be a global feminist outcry for the right to control over our own bodies and our futures. We must tell their stories and bring awareness to the abuse from this regime. We must help them to have a voice. Thank you for reading. Painting by

Almost 1 in 3 Americans will be diagnosed with a malignancy in their lifetime. That is an incredibly daunting statistic. Last night at the .cancer benefit, we watched a beautiful human become a hero in front of our eyes. After being diagnosed with Stage 4 Brain cancer (Glioblastoma), made a promise. She was going to take everything that she learned during her fight with cancer about seeking the best medical care, wellness, nutrition, and self healing and find a way to get it to cancer patients that might not have the support or access to care that she did. She is a survivor teaching others to survive because everyone deserves this access to knowledge. Please check out her non profit’s website, www.docancer.org to donate, to learn, or to find out how you can support yourself or loved ones with their diagnosis. The Do Cancer Healing Cancer Kit is a great gift for someone going through the frenetic aftermath of a new diagnosis.

Beautiful night for a work dinner with a girlfriend. Many of our IGO patients already know Dr Denise Kalmaz. She’s our go to colonoscopist (Gastroenterologist) at UCSD. Here is why this is important: The guidelines for colonoscopy have changed. Screening starts at 45 for people without an increased risk for colon cancer. Sure, it’s not the easiest or the most glamorous screening test we have (can you say bowel prep?) but it’s a truly preventive procedure. If your doctor finds a polyp, she removes it immediately and sends it for pathological assessment. Polyps can develop into colon cancer, so removing them can save your life. Early detection means higher chances for successful treatment and survival.

Dr Kalmaz has really enjoyed taking care of our IGO patients and is adding extra time to her schedule to fit in our patients for their screening or diagnostic tests.
