Very cool
Turns out humans may have a seventh sense – and it’s all about touch.
A new study has discovered that we can sense objects without actually touching them, revealing a surprising form of “remote touch” never before documented in humans.
Researchers asked participants to gently move their fingers through sand to find a hidden cube. The surprising result? Participants could detect the object before their fingers made contact. Their hands picked up tiny mechanical shifts in the surrounding sand, allowing them to sense what was buried beneath the surface.
The findings show that human hands are far more sensitive than we realized, capable of perceiving minute movements in granular materials. This expands our understanding of touch, which has long been considered a strictly direct-contact sense.
Our bodies may be equipped with a subtle, previously unknown way of navigating the world – one that lets us feel objects at a distance.
