As birth workers, we know the numbers. We know that many of our clients are survivors.

To be a birth worker is to believe in the value of women. It is to believe in their power. And most importantly, it is to believe the voice of women.

As many survivors grapple with the steady stream of triggering news, we want to remind birth workers of our role. We are to believe women. We are to trust women. We are to hold space for women.

Being a birth worker is to know there are systems that make it possible not just to harm children and women, but to experience little to no consequences for the harm caused.

It is to know that when women seek our support for vulnerable experiences like birth and postpartum we must hold appropriate space for all that might come up in those times.

As birth workers, we must be clear that we are safe. That we believe women. That we value women. That regardless of what systems and justice systems say, we believe women and know they deserve better.

If you are a survivor, we see you. We believe you. We're holding space for you. We will speak up for you.

All the babies…..

Did you know that babies explore the world through touch?

Researchers from measured the brain responses of 125 preterm and full‑term infants and discovered that a baby’s earliest experiences of touch actually shape how their brains develop.

Gentle, positive touch helps babies build a healthy association with contact, while infants who undergo frequent medical procedures without comforting touch show a reduced response to gentle touch.

Skin‑to‑skin, breastfeeding, bath time and infant massage aren’t just bonding moments, they’re powerful ways to support brain development and sensory processing.

As doulas, we can encourage parents to provide frequent, loving touch and advocate for supportive touch in the NICU.
