Want to optimize your postpartum experience? Start preparing in pregnancy!

Research has found that women who receive pelvic floor-related education in pregnancy are less likely to experience physical and emotional distress in the postpartum period.

This is because women with pelvic floor knowledge are less likely to be blindsided by their delivery and postpartum experiences!

Knowledge is power, which is why I cover common postpartum changes and expectations with every pregnant patient that I work with.

If you want to get a taste of what this looks like, I'm hosting a ✨ free✨ workshop on October 8th with mental health therapist Gabi Kass to cover some of these expectations and help you prepare for pregnancy!

Hi everyone 👋🏼 I'm Erin, the owner and physical therapist behind Remedy Pelvic Health.

It's been quite a while since I've actually introduced myself, so let me take a moment to share a few professional and fun facts:

💖 I've been a pelvic floor physical therapist for almost 7 years - I began the journey in PT school and never looked back!

💖 I started Remedy in 2022 with the goal of providing a higher quality of care for my patients

💖 I LOVE helping people prepare for labor and delivery, and became a certified childbirth educator last year to further that passion 🤰🏼

💖 My happy place is anywhere I can get out and enjoy nature with my husband, Bryan

💖 My favorite hobbies include indoor rock climbing, hiking, camping, getting pulled into a puzzle, or taking our two cats out for a walk (let's be honest, they walk us 😆)

Thanks for following along on this journey!

A patient of mine said her physician told her there was no point to starting pelvic floor therapy if she was planning on getting pregnant again. This patient was coming to her provider with complaints of prolapse, urinary leakage, and pelvic pain, and was essentially told that she just has to deal with it until after she's done having kids.

Unfortunately, this is not a unique occurrence. So often, women are brushed off when it comes to their pregnancy and postpartum symptoms. They're told it's normal, there's nothing you can do about it, or that there's no point to starting if you want more babies.

This is frustrating to us as pelvic floor therapists who KNOW there is so much we can do to help throughout the childbearing years. Whether you're currently pregnant, between pregnancies, or done having babies, we can help to improve leakage, manage prolapse, or decrease pain.

I'm so thankful that this patient followed her intuition and sought out pelvic floor therapy anyway. We need mamas to be able to enjoy symptom-free life now, not wait for years until they can get help!

I'm excited to share that I am now a certified Childbirth Educator through CAPPA!

Helping women navigate pregnancy and prepare for birth has always been one of my favorite things I get to do as a pelvic floor therapist. It's well known in the pelvic health community that providing our patients with knowledge and education around this process improves their birth and postpartum experiences.

A little over a year ago, I decided to dive further into this educator role through formal Childbirth Education. I have really loved diving deeper into the labor prep process with patients - and maybe I'll even start offering some structured classes in the future 👀 😊
