Happy belated Doctor's Day to all the amazing physicians out there! 🎉👨⚕️👩⚕️
I know this post is a little late, but please forgive me - I've been busy actually doing the work of doctoring — nonstop, consecutive days in the hospital are both fulfilling and exhausting! 😅As physicians, we are all too familiar with the toll that our profession can take on our time and energy. We work long hours, often sacrificing our own well-being in order to care for those in need. And yet, despite the many challenges that we face, we continue to persevere, driven by a deep sense of purpose and a desire to help others. And to those who may be feeling weary or discouraged, I want to remind you that you are not alone. We are all in this together, and together we will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger and more resilient than ever before.
I am grateful for all the hats I have been able to wear as a physician. Hospitalist, volunteer, truth-teller, therapist, friend, and fellow human. As a physician, I have the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of my patients and their families, and for that, I feel incredibly fortunate. This workdemands a deep commitment to service, compassion, and excellence. It is a profession that requires us to continually push ourselves to grow and improve, to learn from our mistakes and successes, and to never lose sight of our ultimate goal: to heal and comfort those in need.
But being a physician is not just about medicine. It is also about the relationships that we build with our patients and their families. It is about listening to their stories, sharing in their joys and sorrows, and being there for them through the ups and downs of life.
As we celebrate Doctor's Day (a few days late), I want to spend a moment to reflect on the privilege and responsibility of being a physician. In this moment, I seek to renew this commitment to service, compassion, and empathy. day
