2 weeks ago our Clinical Nutrition Team hosted the 2nd annual SoCal Clinical Nutrition Conference and what a day we had!

2 primary speakers + 3 panelists featuring 11 professionals. Pictures include all of our amazing speakers, our vendor hall, and our planning committee.

This year was so much fun and brought together our interdisciplinary partners and fellow RDs in various work settings. We offered many networking opportunities and it was great seeing connections forming across disciplines, specialty, and career stage.
• Special shout out to our 2024 graduate Lauren Yowell for speaking as part of our community panel! 🎉

It’s been a busy fall season for our UCSDH DI interns! Here’s a little recap of the last few months:

• Interns Jenna and Emma completed their Blue Zones theme meal bringing healthful and plant-based options to our LJ cafe
• Celebrated our CORE division with a carnival including carnival food and games 🎡🍿
• Completed our Intro to PN lecture with our Surgical Oncology Dietitian Riley, which included many practice calculations
• Interns Thi and Meghen completed their Japanese Theme Meal + tasting, which brought miso and Japanese dishes to our HIllcrest cafe
• Our current cohort at the 2025 SoCal Clinical Nutrition Conference
• Completed our intro to ICU class taught by one of our ICU RDs, Michelle

The year is off to a great start and our interns are excelling 🎉

Monday was our Enteral Nutrition Skills Day!

This is always a fun day at our SIM center learning about all things enteral nutrition: indications, complications, formulas, administration methods, calculations, and NGT placement techniques.

Our interns practiced NGT placement and were able to see and play with different tube types and administration methods.

Big shout out to our rockstar faculty Gabby (RD) and Oliver (RN) for their demonstration and expertise!

2025 Orientation Week ✅

We wrapped up a full week of classes, info sessions and some hands-on trainings before rotations start today!

Our orientation week included: hospital tours, a tour of our primary produce vendor , clinical trainings on dysphasia screening, NFPE skills, patient interviews, nutrition assessment, and EHR trainings, in addition to some cohort bonding. Thanks to our friends at VA SD DI for joining us for NFPE day!

It’s been a busy fall season for our 2024-2025 cohort who are enjoying a nice Thanksgiving break. What have they been up to?

1. Interns Abby & Keer completed their “World Food Day” theme meal
2. Our ‘24-‘25 cohort on lunch during the SoCal Clinical Nutrition Conference
3. Intro to Parenteral Nutrition seminar class
3. Interns Lee and Taylor completed their “Global Harvest” theme meal
4. Intern Torina, presenting on the nutrition-focused physical exam to DPD students (her Alma mater!)
5. Interns practicing using glucometers during our intro to Diabetes and Insulin seminar class

And so much more not more not pictured here. Great work to all!

Any day we can spend in our SIM center is a good day!

This week we held our Enteral Nutrition Hands-On Class which included simulated NGT placements with guidance from one of our nurse educators and lecture and practice case studies with one of our ICU/nutrition support dietitians.

This class will help lay the foundation for our nutrition support and more advanced clinical rotations.

Orientation Week 2024!

What a blast we had during orientation week last week. This year orientation included: hospital tours, supplement tasting, refreshers on nutrition assessment/estimating needs, patient interview practice, NFPE practice, a tour of and some team bonding.

They did it! Congratulations to our Class of 2024 Dietetic Interns, who graduated one week ago today.

38 weeks, 1200+ hours, countless NFPEs, nutrition support calculations, presentations, projects and evaluations. Congratulations, we are so proud! 🎉

We celebrated with family, friends, and of course, great food. S/o to our amazing crew of Sous Chefs for the beautiful feast.
