Anyone else reading “Is A River Alive?” by ? I’m still in the first half and am so glad to be reading it. Not just for the ideas but also for the writing. MacFarlane is a lover of language and always writes evocatively. I highly recommend it.

Had the privilege of meeting Danny Wasson, a dowser in Tamworth, NH thanks to the .history.center hosting a day of workshops. He not only demonstrated but allowed folks to try it out themselves. He usually uses a branch (as in the photos) but he also brought along rods which most folks found easier.
To help them feel the action of the branch he would partner with them, each one holding one side of the branch’s Y with their outer hand while holding the other’s near hand (as in photo)
Then I got to help him demonstrate how dowsing can be done with a map. He had a simple map of the land we were on and I was behind him facing away with the rods so neither of us could see the other. As he used his pencil to draw a path across the map others could see that as he reached the water location the rods I was holding crossed in front of me a full ninety degrees. I think he was a little surprised too since we’d just met and I’d never done anything like that before.
He’s been dowsing since he was sixteen when someone just asked if he wanted to try it. He mostly dowses for wells but can also find water and electric lines.
I appreciate folks like Danny who just do their work, not concerning themselves with putting on a “woo-woo” appearance or performance. He’s just a nice fella who can dowse. This is what I aspire to. Putting excessive energy into aesthetics as a marketing strategy should be avoided. What a person looks like shouldn’t matter. Be more like Danny.

If you got my email today you know that carrying all my bowls cross country is a little tricky. And if you’ve had a session you know how big this bowl is. I measured a few days ago and supposedly it wouldn’t fit, but I tried it anyway and look 👀! Kestrel will miss her napping cubby (where she can get away from Johnny and his long legs), but now I can center more of the weight (more will go in that bowl).
Please ignore the dog fur in the photo. Kestrel is part husky so whatcha gonna do. The dogs have a hammock-style cover in back and I love stowing stuff underneath.
Shoutout to my 19 year old Scion. It’s gonna hit 200,000 miles on this trip. It’s a Toyota at its heart, just a bit more rattle and bump to it.

Doesn’t look like much but there’s a lot of power and sound being packed up. It’s like adding another adult human to the car so I’m thankful that I can nest four crystal bowls and a bunch of Himalayan bowls so compactly. The puzzle is distributing the weight while also accommodating the dogs and stowing my flower essence supplies (and a bit for myself). I’ve acquired a little more this year in sound supplies, so hoping for a fruitful summer.

It’s quiet in the studio today.

Pause and feel. How are you feeling? Take a few breaths, maybe put your hand gently to your chest, and go inward for a few moments.
You might feel like rushing out of this moment. Our culture wants us to rush.
You might be the kind of person who is more comfortable helping others with a pause like this than reflecting on your own feelings.
If this moment is uncomfortable for you try not to jump out of it too quickly. Pausing to acknowledge you could use some help is the first step.
Flower essence therapy is a safe and supportive process that can help you unwind this discomfort, starting right where you are.
My role in a flower essence session is to facilitate so you aren’t overwhelmed with choices and decisions. We’ll start where you are.

Yesterday I spent a few minutes cleaning some of last year’s long dead grass from within and around my white and black sages that sit under an oak in my backyard. Dead straws mussing up the beauty of the now greening sages.
Sometimes I forget how healing it is to be with the plants. To stop and spend a few minutes with their energy and scent. Not using them, just tending to them a little, showing appreciation. I immediately felt better.
Today I picked some freshly rain-washed nettles and tree mallow leaves to add to the soup of the day. My tree mallows are so full of soft leaves right now I could make a vat of soup for the whole neighborhood!
The drought slowed everything down. Usually I pick nettles in December, and the miner’s lettuce in the front yard is just getting started, remaining much smaller than last year’s towering plants.
Plants will remind you how to heal.

My services through Earth+Song+Energy provide deep relaxation with Vibrational Sound Therapy using Himalayan singing bowls placed on the body. I also offer crystal healing to accompany these sessions, as well as the option to consult on getting a custom energetic essence formula. All of my services are offered through a sliding scale fee system.
I've been providing holistic wellness care for dogs for over 10 years through my related business, The Art of Dog (My current dog Kestrel loves to assist in sound healing sessions). In recent years I benefited from “sound bath” experiences presented by local practitioners and leapt at the chance to learn how to offer similar benefits to others.
Vibrational Sound Therapy is a "coming home" for me. I was raised in an artistic family with parents who were respected professionals in the world of music and theater, while I myself entered the visual art profession. I have found the resonant patterns of the bowls to be deeply restorative to my creative self, providing a path toward renewal through this deeply satisfying practice. My creative mind also finds a special role in my work with energetic essences and herbs, through listening and then creating custom blends for each individual.
Vibrational Sound Therapy could be described as getting a sound massage. Himalayan Singing Bowls are placed on the body and struck with a felt mallet. This doesn't create a clang, but a gentle bell tone that resonates in the space as the vibrations of the bowl are felt in your body. Additional sounds from crystal bowls and chimes fill the space for an all-encompassing experience. The sounds and vibrations tap into our deepest self in the most beautiful way, bringing deep relaxation to the mind and body that last well past the session.
I'm certified as a Vibrational Sound Therapy Practitioner by the Vibrational Sound Association. I appreciate the “non-denominational” aspect of the training I received. There is no cultural appropriation nor is any particular belief required for the benefits of this method to be experienced.
