San Diego Center For Speech Therapy & Myofunctional Therapy provides comprehensive speech, language, social/pragmatic, and orofacial myofunctional evaluations and therapy. We work with individuals of all ages, and we specialize in treating people with orofacial myofunctional disorders including tongue thrust, mouth breathing, snoring, sleep apnea, sleep breathing and airway issues, tongue tie and

other tethered oral tissues, feeding issues, dental/orthodontic issues related to myofunctional disorders, and parafunctional habits such as thumb/finger sucking, pacifier use, nail biting, and more. We have two offices, one in Carmel Valley and one in Mission Beach. We also have teamed up with physical therapists, and we treat and refer together in order to better help our patients. Our physical therapists have training in myofunctional therapy and are able to help treat accompanying airway issues, posture issues, TMJ problems, migraines/headaches, neck issues, forward head posture, and other dysfunctional breathing patterns (to name a few), all of which are related to myofunctional disorders and common in most of the patients we see. We have two Speech Language Pathologists who have achieved a Certification in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy through the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM), a certification that only a select few individuals in the world have. Our therapists are 2 of the only 4 in all of San Diego with these joint degrees. Our owner is an internationally renowned presenter on the topic of Sleep Disordered Breathing and Myofunctional Therapy.

Good to know - and in our evaluations, we are not able to see the adenoids with the naked eye, so that is why a referral to ENT is important in all cases when nasal obstruction is suspected.

🌟This podcast is hosted by an expert in “Baby Led Weaning“, and we talk all about the early years, how our oral facial muscles grow and shape our face and airway, and how it’s important to masticate and use appropriate feeding methods in order to help develop the airway.

🚩We also talk about red flags in early childhood.

👏Please feel free to share with patients, family members, and colleagues. I believe this will be of interest to dentists, orthodontists, pediatricians, and other experts who help children and care about how the early years impact the growth of the face, airway, and overall health. 💙

So happy for this review by my patient from 2 days ago wrote…🙏 I am so happy to be able to help people who have found no answers to their conditions. Who are suffering and struggling, when there is a way to find answers, yet the medical system has led them astray. When we do not sleep well, we do not feel or function well. The answers are there if you just know what to look for and what questions to ask…

Thank you Ronald Ead, as this patient found me from you interviewing me on JawHacks.

See Dr.Zaghi video..,

“Many parents wonder if children can “grow out” of having large tonsils, meaning that as they get older, the tonsils will no longer be a problem. However, it’s crucial to understand that children often “grow around” their tonsils instead. This means that as they develop, their bodies adapt to the space limitations caused by enlarged tonsils.

To breathe properly, their palate may narrow to create sufficient airway space, which can lead to orthodontic and other health issues. It’s important to monitor and address this early on to ensure proper development and avoid complications.

What do you guys think of this concept? Do you grow “out” of chronically enlarged tonsils or do you grow “around” them?”

🤩Course Description🤩
The clinician learned to understand and apply manual therapy (MT) as a multifactorial method of impacting voice and swallowing issues. Using a biopsychosocial approach to evaluation and intervention, the clinician utilized the evidence to support this MT model and, through hands-on experiences, learned immediately applicable clinical skills in the context of the diagnoses facing the SLP. This course content also fits within the framework of the massage, occupational, and physical therapists interested in this region. Areas of interest include voice, swallowing, oral-motor disorders, tongue dysfunction, breathing, pain, and performance limitations.

🤯🤯🤯Substitute the word “type 2 diabetes“ with “SLEEP APNEA”…🤯🤯🤯

“Type 2 diabetes belongs to a spectrum…that begins long before someone crosses that magical diagnostic threshold. Type 2 diabetes is merely the last stop on the line. The time to intervene is well before the patient gets anywhere near that zone… Even pre-diabetes is very late in the game… It is absurd and harmful to treat this disease like a cold or a broken bone, where either you have it or you don’t. It is not binary, yet too often the point of clinical diagnosis is where our intervention begins. Why is that okay?

I believe our goal should be to act as early as possible to try to prevent people from developing Type 2 diabetes and all the other horsemen (disease). We should be proactive instead of reactive in our approach. Changing that mindset must be our first step in attacking slow death. We want to delay or prevent these conditions so we can live longer without disease rather than lingering with disease. That means that the best time to intervene is before the eggs start falling.“

🌟Think AIRWAY, malocclusion, sleep-disordered breathing / sleep apnea…See the warning signs. Recognize the symptoms. Treat early. Prevent early.🌟

📖“Medicine’s biggest failing is in attempting to treat all these conditions at the wrong end of the time scale - after they are entrenched rather than before they take root. As a result, we ignore important warning signs and missed opportunities to intervene at a point where we still have a chance to beat back these diseases, improve health, and potentially extend lifespans.”📖

05/21/2024

‼️Two of the many important takeaways from the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, concepts presented by Dr. David Gozal:

1. Sleep-disordered breathing is marked by increased systemic inflammation. In other words, if you have sleep-disordered breathing, you will have higher levels of inflammation in your body. This is true for children as well as adults, setting the person up for increased risk and susceptibility to disease. In my opinion, it is no wonder so many of our patients have eczema, gluten sensitivity, and increased risk for many other inflammatory diseases. 🩺

2. Snoring ALONE causes brain damage. Even in children who have normal IQ scores and normal daytime functioning, when looking at fMRI studies of the brain, those who snore had reduced gray matter in the brain and are using many more areas of the brain to do simple tasks than children who breathe normally during sleep. Whoa!🤯
