Bold. With hints of truth.

How we experience being in our body is a microcosm of how we relate in the world.

We debunked posture as a causation of pain in our last post, however posture, just as one fractal of being embodied, can provide helpful insights.

Our bodies formulate responses from our internal and external environments, taking in-bodied form as cellular memory. And how beautiful that our mindbody serves as this containment.

Posture is so much more than bony alignment. It is a treasure trove of all of you have experienced along the way. It is the enduring parts of you that have held on. That continue to exist.

Serving as a sounding board of sorts, the resonance of our inner microcosm effects the outer macrocosm of how we relate, showing up in our posture, gestures and behaviors, eventually appearing as our personality.

Posture is a portal into how we experience life, and who we are in it. Research studies over 25 yrs may have disproven posture as a causation of pain, and yet posture still provides insight. It’s a portal to your soul.

(but not why you think! 🥰)

Consider this.

80% of your experience is informed from sensory nerves, receiving stimulus from your external and internal environment.

This information is sent to the brain where we generate an interpretation of that sensory information based on previous associations developed from memory, emotions and thoughts (whether ours or ancestral epigenetic imprints).

The brain sends the interpreted information back down to the body in the form of hormones and neurotransmitters… This process accounts for the remaining 20% of the nervous system.

With the cultural importance of thinking our way through life, it’s an internal Pareto’s Principle of sorts, where 20% of the brains input may heavily influence the remaining 80%.

How can we enhance the mutuality of the mind-body relationship?
How can we prioritize mindbody reciprocity or ayni?

We can get curious by asking ourselves questions like:

* Does my body feel safe in the care of my mind?
* Does my body feel seen and heard by my mind?
* Does my body feel tended to and appreciated by my mind?

* Does my mind feel fulfilled by the efforts of my body?
* Does my mind feel at peace by the resting of my body?
* Does my mind feel nourished and clear by the support of my body?

Play with these or whatever comes to you.
Does your mind or body desire more acknowledgement?
Where in your system would appreciate more, and of what?

Checkpoints like these can help us navigate fostering increased harmony within, while illuminating spaces speaking to us.

Change the game of ‘change.’

Whether it’s the New Year, New You energy, the desire for something better or different in your life, or the deep healing need to feel more whole -

There is a tendency in Western culture to approach change with magnitude. A large uptick of exercise, nutrition curbing, or supplement taking. Utilizing our will from an empowered space can be highly engaging and rewarding. And for a multitude of reasons, it might not feel a suitable or sustainable strategy for us.

If / when the approach of big, quick, fast stimulus feels forced or leaves you depleted, consider the various ways in which your body communicates. By speaking directly to the lines of communication within; our nervous and endocrine systems, we inform the messengers of gentle suggestions towards the transformation / integration we seek.

Human nature is a reflection of earthly nature. Smells can become influences of mood alterations or enzyme production, breath can be used to soothe mind or stimulate physical energy, our touch can used to modulate tissue recovery or co-regulate relationally. These incredible natural functions of our human nature speak directly to these lines of communications; nervous and endocrine systems.

The awareness of why, what and how to communicate with our mindbody self can be helpful in the journey of identifying what we need. Variations of how this may intentionally implement these often will spontaneously arise when we become curious. The invitation is for greater space on how we interact with our mindbody when we are seeking change, or an experience of something other.

Here at Medisoma, our Somatic Integration incorporates touch, movement, nutrition, herbs, breath, rest, smells and sound in your experience. To provide a more cohesive means of communication to your whole-person. When both lines of communication are receiving cues from the environment, in slow, intentional ways, we find the path towards the change sought contains more ease.

At some point in your life you may have heard a doctor or therapist rationalize the use of myofascial release or instrument-assisted soft tissue manipulation to “break up scar tissue” or “break up adhesions.”

Sometimes practitioners find themselves simplifying the way we describe this therapy. It's mostly due to the circulation of poor information or misperceptions of what is being affected by these treatments.

The field of fascia research is always changing, complex, and still requires years of work.

When a practitioner says that IASTM is "breaking up fascia" or "breaking up scar tissue" that is NOT what's happening.

It's a somewhat controversial topic, but one that we feel is important to tackle head-on.
