Last weekend, ReMend mentor, Emmitt Henderson III , hosted an impactful event focused on raising awareness for his own urgent need for a kidney transplant, while also passionately advocating for living kidney donation. The event served as a platform to educate the community about the impact of living donation and how individuals can become a lifeline for those in need.

Emmitt, who founded nonprofit organization, is a shining example of resilience and advocacy within the kidney community, shared his personal journey and the realities of living with kidney disease. His heartfelt message resonated deeply with attendees, fostering a greater understanding of the critical need for kidney donors.

Adding to the powerful atmosphere was the presence of fellow ReMend mentor, Jeanmarie Ferguson. Both Emmitt and Jeanmarie are living with lupus and are both in need of a life-saving kidney transplant. Their shared experience underscores the urgent need for more individuals to consider living donation.

The event provided valuable information about the kidney donation process, addressing common misconceptions and offering resources for those interested in learning more. It was a testament to the power of community, education, and the spirit of hope.

ReMend is deeply grateful to both Emmitt and Jeanmarie for their leadership and commitment to this crucial cause. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of individuals burdened with kidney disease.

Our Story

ReMend is committed to providing no-cost mentoring, encouragement and support to those affected by kidney disease.

Our dedicated and trained volunteers are from all over San Diego County and many of them are willing to travel to a convenient place to meet.

ReMend mentors can be the face of hope for anyone facing dialysis or a kidney transplant. We’re here to listen and provide encouragement, and most importantly, share our experiences.

We are living proof that life does not end with kidney disease. Whether someone is facing Chronic kidney disease (CKD), dialysis, possible kidney donation or a kidney transplant, the ReMend program empowers patients to move forward with their lives after being diagnosed with kidney disease. Support from friends, family and the renal care team is important, but talking to someone who has been in the same situation is often the best for calming nerves and realizing positive outcomes.
