Waiting for baby. Blessed to be here supporting a sweet family during their induction. Inductions can be a long, drawn out process with lots of time spent quietly waiting for labor to begin. When I’m supporting a medically induced labor my job looks a little different, there’s more emphasis on helping the family understand their options and empowering them to feel confident in their choices for their birth. Even families facing a medical induction have choices, there are many different routes to take to get to labor and it’s important that families know their options so they can make the most educated decisions for their own personal birth experience.

Postpartum doulas are there to support families in so many ways. Every family is different and the way we support each family is unique to their own specific needs. My newest favorite item, and it’s not just because we share the same name! Dreamland Baby swaddle is a weighted swaddle that transitions into a sleep sack as baby grows. The quilted weighted material is incredible and seriously helps babies stay comfortable while sleeping, and anything that encourages longer night time sleep stretches in a huge win in my opinion! The inside velcro band makes swaddling your baby’s arms super easy and quick.and the two way zipper helps with easier middle of the night diaper changes. highly recommend swaddled and sleep sacks!

Time for bed! This doula’s day has been pretty amazing! An overnight postpartum shift with a sweet babe who is learning to self soothe and has transitioned from waking 5 times a night to just once last night! I got a phone call from a birth client 15 minutes before the end of my postpartum shift that her labor had started. Mama had a pretty fast birth with her first baby, so I headed straight to their house as soon as I finished my postpartum shift. I arrived at 7:35am, mama was in early labor but picked up quickly. Sweet baby was born peacefully at home less than 3 hours later! Home births are magical! So blessed to be able to support family inn labor, birth and postpartum all in the same day!

When you love your job, you never have to work a day in your life.
This precious boy greeted his beautiful mama just a mere 2 hours after she checked in to the hospital. A perfect 10 pounds of squishy love! Does it get any better?
