April is National Occupational Therapy Month! 🖍️🤸✍🏻❤️ We are so grateful and proud to have such an excellent team of well-trained and knowledgeable occupational therapists (though this picture is missing a few)! Our OTs help our kids with regulation, sensory integration, emotion regulation, movement, praxis, ideation, fine motor skills, handwriting, coloring, and so much more!

It’s spring break at SDOT! 🌸☀️At spring break camp, the kids get the opportunity to work on lots of skills, such as:
-making and sticking to a group plan
-communicate and problem solving with other peers
-identifying emotions and energy levels and strategies to change them if needed
-waiting a turn, and taking turns
-safety awareness when playing with other peers

And of course we have time for lots of fun crafts and games! Our spring crafts are great to support fine motor control, visual motor skills, bilateral coordination, pencil grasp, and other handwriting skills! 🎨🖌️
-coffee filter butterfly
-cut, color and glue puzzles
-squirming caterpillars
-egg carton flowers

During our games, like the egg relay race, garden yoga, & giant board game, our kids got to work on taking turns and sharing while also working on strength, and coordination! 💪🤸‍♀️

And of course, we love when Miss Eliza + Miss Kat stop in for story time! 📚

We can’t wait for another week of spring break camp!

Time to meet another one of our incredible OTs!🩷
Miss Stef loves photography and capturing the simple moments of every day, like a sunset at the beach. Her favorite way to self-regulate is to hop on a swing and play bolster switch. She also loves going for walks while playing Pokémon Go! 🌅📷🤗

Elphaba sighting at SDOT! 💚🖤Our Wicked fans have been loving “defying gravity” in the gym! This witch planned and executed this hat to complete her Elphaba look all by herself! Crafts are not just great for building fine motor skills - they can be a great opportunity to work on motor planning skills as well!

Help your child tune into their sensory needs! The more they understand how different sensory inputs affect their energy and emotions, the better they can self-regulate. Try exploring different sensory activities together to find what helps them stay balanced throughout the day!

SDOT loves their therapy team! ❤️💕
Meet Alex, one our OTs here at the clinic! A fun fact about her is that she did a 30-day backpacking/hiking trip across the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016 with her best friend.⛰️
She also loves exploring new places to eat, trying new coffee shops, spending time at church, hiking, walking her dogs, reading, or spending time with family.
She’s seen in the picture above with her dog Ricky. For self care, she enjoys spending time outside walking her dogs , which is one of her favorite coping skills when she needs to regulate or “fill her energy bucket”. 🚶‍♀️🐾

SDOT loves their therapists! 💙💜Meet Lidia!

Fun Fact: She is a trail guide and budding animal tracker. You can find her volunteering at our local Mission Trails Regional Park restoring habitat, guiding nature lovers of all ages, or just kneeling down in the dirt looking at something cool. 🌿🌳

For self-regulation, she likes to start mornings with mindful hiking with her fur babies (Nacho and Taki) 🐾to wake up the senses and end the day spinning yarn on her wheel to provide a gentle, repetitive, and rhythmic activity to calm her body down.

SDOT loves their therapy team! Let’s show some love for Holly (yes, that’s really her!)❤️🙀

A fun fact about Holly is that she has a sphinx cat named Luna. One of her favorite self-care activities is acroyoga, which combines acrobatics and yoga. It is a playful, collaborative, and technical practice that helps build and maintain strength, balance, flexibility, and mindfulness. 🧘‍♀️ 💪
