Being part of Pacific Division American Liver Foundation, I am also part of their AMAC, I am the only non nurse on this committee so you can imagine how much I learn. Tuesday AMAC meeting was about Lifesharing, an organization in San Diego that Processes organ donation. the Executive Dir. gave a presentation. I learned so much and yes, the Executive Director, Lisa, reported that they take diners that most of us would assume Many medical issues would make a person not be eligible as a donor. So thanks Melanie for sharing. Want more information, go to www.lifesharing.org or liverfoundation.org. Why am I involved? 1) Liver disease and treatment of liver diseases has a great impact on the SUD field. 2) I have loved ones who have had (Melanie) or need ( my brother Jim Jackson) a liver transplant and, 3) I have hemochromatosis, an iron overload disease, which left untreated causes great harm to the body, especially to the heart and liver) and since I have four older brothers whom have passed away before the age of 50, from some form of heart, liver, cancer or SUD related disease; it is extremely important for me to get the word out. So join me in passing the word and asking other or becoming a donor yourself!,
Many people think that just because you've had cancer or any other serious illness, you cannot be an organ donor, but that's not true! Medical professionals make the decisions on what can be donated or not, so don't hesitate! Sign up to be a donor today! https://goo.gl/G2bDrD
