What is Tennis Elbow?

While the world’s top tennis players battle it out at the U.S. Open, players and fans alike are reminded of the incredible skill, strength, and stamina required to play this sport at the highest level. In addition we observe the tremendous strain that is often put on the body. As many players know, the tennis swing can be a primary cause of lateral epicondylitis, better known as tennis elbow. Other repetitive motions can also cause trauma and injury to the outer forearm muscles.

When the lateral epicondylitis becomes inflamed, this can result in pain and tenderness at the outside elbow that may go all the way down to the middle and ring finger. Pain may also be felt when the wrist is bent backward, or when picking something up with a straight elbow, or holding something with a stiff wrist.

Chiropractic treatment can help alleviate the pain of tennis elbow, as well as help prevent it in the first place. If you suffer from tennis elbow, call Peak Performance and get started with treatment this week!

Do You Suffer From Carpal Tunnel?

Carpal tunnel is a common problem that involves the wrist and the hand. Repetitive trauma to the wrists can cause compression of the median nerve at the wrist as it goes through the transverse carpal ligament and the bones (carpals) of the hand. Carpal tunnel is a nerve entrapment problem usually caused by repeated use of the hands (typing on a keyboard, assembly work, mechanical work, etc.) causing inflammation of the median nerve.
Carpal tunnel may cause pain, tingling and numbness to the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and half of the ring finger. Chiropractic treatment has helped numerous patients rehabilitate from this condition. Don’t continue to suffer… call Peak Performance today!

What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is a syndrome characterized by pain radiating from the back into the posterior (back) aspect of the lower leg. Sciatica is most commonly caused by a protrusion of a lower lumbar disc which causes compression of the sciatic nerve. Sciatica may also be caused by a nerve entrapment somewhere down the affected leg such as piriformis syndrome.

Risk factors for sciatica include diabetes, osteoarthritis, prior back injuries, or a tumor. Symptoms may include pain, tingling, and/or numbness in the back of the leg and into the big toe. Chiropractic treatment has been shown to help sciatica. If you or someone you know suffers from sciatica, don’t wait for the painful symptoms to get worse. Contact Peak Performance today and schedule an initial consultation with a Doctor of Chiropractic.
