At Family Houses, we're for so much.

In the midst of challenging care journeys, families under our roof come together for support and healing.

Meals are shared with those who were strangers moments ago.

Patient and caregiver milestones are celebrated by guests from all around the world, with words of joy spoken in many languages.

And past guests often return to keep the joy coming.

One such guest is Rick Valencia. He came back recently with a truckload of food, hygiene items, laundry supplies, gifts for the kids in the houses, and so much more. He does this in honor of his brother, as they stayed at Bannister Family House so he could receive an organ transplant.

🏥Nothing warms our hearts quite like our own nursing team hosting a meal! Pictured here is the Jacobs Medical Center 4FGH Surgical Oncology Team. These powerhouse workers took time out of their busy day to serve a HUGE meal for our guests in La Jolla Family House.

The best part? Some of these nurses serving up a meal are caring for the guests under our roof in the hospital too! Talk about full-circle patient and family-centered care.

We are blown away by the strength of our team at UC San Diego Health and can't wait to see you again soon!

Homes Away From Home

Imagine being far from home, and the unexpected happens: a loved one becomes critically ill. While your loved one is in the hospital, where will you stay? Is there a place to do laundry, receive supportive services, prep meals, and rest? When a loved one is hospitalized far from home, it can make an already stressful situation even more so.

To help ease that burden, the Family Houses at UC San Diego Health provide havens of hope and comfort for families with a loved one in long-term or critical care at UC San Diego Health. For 25 years, Bannister Family House in Hillcrest has welcomed more than 6,000 families from all over the world. And in 2020, we are excited to welcome a second home, the La Jolla Family House, to help even more families in need. To learn more, visit health.ucsd.edu/bannister.
