As estrogen levels decline during Menopause, the following key systems are affected:

• Proprioception and balance decline with age and  hormonal shifts. Research shows that postmenopausal women have decreased postural stability and are more prone to falls, especially if they are not physically active (Moran et al., Clin Interv Aging, 2011).

• Muscle mass and strength naturally decrease with  age—a process called sarcopenia—which accelerates  after menopause due to changes in estrogen and growth  hormone regulation (Messier et al., Menopause, 2011).

• Joint and spinal function may decline, impacting  neuromuscular feedback. This can affect how well the brain perceives and controls movement—especially when the spine and nervous system are under stress.

Try this simple balance practice:
Stand near a chair. Lift one foot and hold for 30 seconds. Switch sides. Try 2 rounds per day. To increase the challenge, close your eyes or stand on a soft surface. This activates core muscles, improves balance, and sharpens proprioception!
