Recently got a vegetable box and it had a pumpkin pie pumpkin! 🎃
This is one of my favorite parts of getting the box — I love the surprise and the creativity it brings. I was so excited about it that I left it out as fall décor for a bit… and then on Sunday I finally turned it into pumpkin purée.

Do you know how easy it is to make?
1️⃣ Cut the pumpkin in half
2️⃣ Scoop out the seeds (save them — roast for zinc-rich pumpkin seeds!)
3️⃣ Roast the pumpkin
4️⃣ Let it cool and peel the skin right off
5️⃣ Blend in a food processor for 2–4 minutes

✨ THAT’S IT. ✨

You can use it over the next few days for:
• Pumpkin pancakes
• Pumpkin coffee creamer
• Pumpkin pie
• Or freeze it for later!

I had no idea it was this easy! Pumpkin is packed with vitamin A for skin + immune health, fiber for gut support, and antioxidants that help reduce inflammation. A nutrient-dense fall staple! 🍂✨

✨ Back to Basics Returns Tomorrow! ✨

Back in January, Dr. McGill started Back to Basics after noticing something important…

Between podcasts, social media tips, and trending health advice — health has become so complicated. 😅

Even in the clinic, she realized many people were skipping the foundations — the small, simple habits that actually move the needle for your hormones, gut, and mood.

That’s how Back to Basics with Dr. McGill began — a weekly series on Moonstone Minutes (stories every Thursday) where we break down real wellness:
🌿 Lifestyle foundations
🥗 Nutrition made simple
🧘‍♀️ Mind & body balance

Because before the supplements, testing, or protocols… getting back to the basics still matters most. 💫

We’re picking up right where we left off — talking all about fiber!

Do you ever feel like something’s just off, low energy, mood swings, skin changes, or bloating, yet your labs come back “normal”?
The missing link could be the connection between your gut and hormones.

✨ Your gut is where estrogen gets metabolized.
✨ Gut bacteria influence how you detox hormones.
✨ Inflammation or imbalance in the gut can throw your thyroid, cortisol, and even cycle hormones off track.

When we support digestion, balance the microbiome, and reduce inflammation, hormones often find their rhythm again.

That’s why at Moonstone Naturopathic INC, I don’t just look at hormones in isolation. We support the entire gut-hormone axis because your body works as a system, not in parts.

💧 Nourish your gut.
🌿 Balance your hormones.
✨ Restore your energy.

Curious if your gut could be affecting your hormones?

It’s been a little quiet here these past couple of months, and I wanted to share why.

My sweet Audrey turned 19 a few weeks before she crossed over the rainbow. 🌈 Many of you know how much she meant to me — she was my family, my soul-dog, my heart.

Even though we had 19 beautiful years together, it was sudden. We spent her last day cuddling, and in her own way, she let me know it was time. 💔

This post is to honor her — and to share what I’ve learned about grief:
1️⃣ It’s hard!
2️⃣ Be gentle with yourself and allow healing to take time.
3️⃣ I read this quote and it stayed with me — “Grief is the love you still had to give.”
4️⃣ Grief moves in waves — some days feel lighter, others unexpectedly heavy.

Pet grief is its own kind of heartbreak. Some understand; others don’t. But that doesn’t make the love — or the loss — any less real.

If you’re grieving, whether it’s someone you love or a beloved pet, please know you’re not alone. It’s okay to not be okay. Every day, I still place my hand on my heart, breathe, and remind myself that healing is love in motion — and love never truly leaves. 🤍

Hormone Health Starts in the Gut 🌀
Your gut does more than digest food—it plays a major role in balancing your hormones.
✔ Supports estrogen detox
✔ Communicates with your thyroid
✔ Regulates stress response

When your gut is out of balance, your hormones feel it too.
If you’ve been struggling with irregular cycles, mood changes, low energy, or stubborn weight, your gut may be part of the puzzle.

💧 Water Quality & Your Hormones
It’s National Water Quality Month — a perfect reminder that what’s in your water can impact your hormones.

Tap water often contains chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Over time, these can add stress to your thyroid, liver, and reproductive hormones.

✅ My top hormone-friendly filter picks:

Berkey Filters — countertop, excellent for removing contaminants

Clearly Filtered — pitcher and under-sink options

Whole-house filtration — have your plumber install a system so every drop counts

Clean water is one of the simplest ways to support your body’s natural hormone balance.

🩵 Hair Loss in Women: Could It Be Your Gut or Hormones?
August is Hair Loss Awareness Month, and if your ponytail is looking thinner or you’re noticing more strands in the shower, it’s worth looking beyond just shampoos and supplements.

Your gut helps absorb the nutrients that feed your hair follicles, while your hormones—especially thyroid, estrogen, and stress hormones—play a big role in growth cycles.
When either system is out of balance, your hair can show it.

✨ Signs it might be gut or hormone-related:

Hair thinning or shedding that won’t improve

Digestive issues or bloating

Fatigue, mood swings, or menstrual changes

You don’t have to guess what’s going on—testing can give you answers.

📅 Book a consult or hormone test this month to start your hair restoration journey.

🍋 When life gives you lemons… support your liver, skin & digestion!
It’s National Lemon Day, and this little yellow fruit is more than just a kitchen staple — it’s a wellness powerhouse.

Here’s why we love lemons:
✨ Rich in vitamin C (hello, glowing skin + immune boost)
✨ Stimulates bile flow + gentle liver detox support
✨ Aids digestion and helps alkalize the body
✨ Natural antibacterial properties
✨ May reduce kidney stone risk

Simple ways to add lemon into your daily routine:
🍋 Start your morning with warm lemon water
🥗 Add fresh lemon juice to dressings and dips
🍵 Squeeze into herbal teas for extra zing and benefits
🍰 Use lemon zest in baked goods or smoothies
🥤 Make a refined-sugar-free lemonade with stevia or monk fruit

When life gives you lemons… make it a healthy habit! 🌿

🧬 Back to Basics: Why Protein Really Matters in Perimenopause
Most women don’t realize this…
👉 As estrogen declines, so does your body’s ability to absorb and use protein effectively.
That means the same protein-rich meal you ate in your 30s may no longer give you the same muscle-building, metabolism-supporting benefits in your 40s and beyond.

📉 Lower estrogen =
▪️ Lower muscle protein synthesis
▪️ Slower metabolism
▪️ Harder time maintaining strength and energy

🛠 Back to Basics Tip:
You may need more protein than you used to — especially at breakfast and after workouts.
Aim for 30g+ of high-quality protein per meal to keep your metabolism strong, support lean muscle, and help your hormones do their job.

🥚 Think pasture-raised eggs, wild salmon, lentils, collagen, or a clean protein smoothie.

Food is foundational hormone support. Let’s start there.
