🌸Embrace the Essence of Spring with Traditional Chinese Medicine🌸

As we transition into spring, it's the perfect time to align our lifestyles with the vibrant energy of this season. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), spring symbolizes renewal, growth, and rebirth. It’s a time to cleanse and rejuvenate both our bodies and minds.
Living in harmony with spring according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) involves understanding and embracing the natural rhythms and energies of the season. Here are some key principles to help you align with spring:
1. Embrace the Wood Element
Spring is associated with the Wood element, which symbolizes growth, renewal, and vitality. This is a time to cultivate creativity and set new intentions for the year ahead. Engage in activities that inspire you and allow your ideas to blossom.

2. Nourish the Liver
In TCM, the liver is the organ most closely linked to spring. It governs the smooth flow of Qi (energy) and emotions. Support liver health by incorporating foods that promote its function, such as leafy greens, sprouts, parsley and arugula. The liver also favors sour foods in the spring like lemons, kombucha, pomegranate and vinegar. They astringe the liver, which helps control qi, preventing “leakage” Avoid heavy, greasy foods that may lead to stagnation. As it warms up outdoors, shortening our cooking time is appropriate.

3. Detox and Cleanse
Spring is a natural time for detoxification. Consider gentle cleansing practices, such as drinking warm water with lemon, herbal teas, or incorporating more fiber-rich foods to support digestion. This helps eliminate toxins that may have accumulated over winter.

4. Stay Active and Stretch
As the weather warms up, increase your physical activity. The liver controls the tendons in the body, so keeping them flexible and nourished are key to staying limber and healthy. Incorporate a morning and evening stretch into your routine. Gentle exercises like walking, tai chi, or yoga can promote the smooth flow of Qi and help release any emotional blockages. Outdoor activities also connect you with the rejuvenating energy of nature.

5. Balance Emotions
Spring can bring about feelings of frustration or irritability if the liver energy is stagnant. Practice mindfulness, meditation, or breathing exercises to cultivate emotional balance. Journaling or creative expression can also help in processing and releasing emotions.

6. Connect with Nature
Spend time outdoors to soak up the fresh energy of spring. Engage in gardening, hiking, or simply enjoying the blooming flowers and budding trees. This connection to nature can enhance your sense of renewal and invigorate your spirit.

7. Set Intentions
As spring signifies new beginnings, take time to reflect on your goals and aspirations. Write down your intentions for the season and visualize the growth you wish to achieve. This practice aligns your energy with the natural cycles of renewal.

Acupuncture Treatments: If you are still finding the transition into spring hard to deal with, come in for some acupuncture. A treatment can help regulate your Liver Qi and get you ready to embrace this new season.

As nature awakens, so can we—embracing the lightness of spring and setting intentions for growth and renewal in our lives.

In Western Medicine the body is seen as a machine, you try to fix a broken part or take it out. In Chinese Medicine, the body is seen as a garden. If the leaves are wilting or turning brown, you examine the condition of the soil, see if the plant is getting enough water & sun or if the roots are being impinged upon. You don’t just paint the leaves green! ~ From the classic book on Chinese Medicine, "Between Heaven and Earth".

STRUCTURED or Exclusion Zone water:

What is Exclusion Zone water?

Water is the elixir of life. Mammals can survive a while without food, we cannot survive long without water.

We used to all drink from glacier fed springs, creeks, and rivers. That water is structured because of the vortex flow over rocks and collection of minerals along the way.

Did you know there was a fourth phase of water?

This information came to light thanks to the work of Gerald Pollack, scientist, researcher and author of the “4th phase of Water”.

This 4th phase or EZ (Exclusion Zone) water is the structured water we have around our cells protecting and hydrating them. It’s a plasma feel, diamond like structure that doesn’t allow toxins, viruses, bacteria etc into the cell.

optimal hydration with this kind of water is key to keeping the communication networks (connective tissue/ fascia) of your body running efficiently. Cell and tissue hydration aren’t achieved simply by “drinking water”. In fact plain tap water may actually be dehydrating your body. The best water to consume is natural spring water or the living and structured water contained within fruits and vegetables. The reverse osmosis water that most of the population drinks is devoid of the trace minerals that are essential for providing the net negative charge needed to get water into your cells for optimal hydration.

Ways to hydrate the body:

Consuming natural spring water
Adding electrolytes to water
Consuming in season fruits and vegetables making sure you are getting enough trace minerals
nasal breathing
sauna
earthing/grounding
exercising
infrared light (red light present at all times of day from the sun)

Things that dehydrate the body:

Tap water
Non native EMF’s
Cell phone radiation
Environmental toxins
Stress
Mouth breathing
Not getting enough sunlight
Lack of movement

Hydrate for optimal health!💦💧

Unlock the Healing Powers of Persimmons 🪄🙌

Let's talk about a fruit that's been a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2,000 years - the persimmon.

Persimmons:
🫁Treat persistent cough caused by pathogenic heat in the lungs
🚽Relieve diarrhea due to a weak digestive system and help with hemorrhoids
❤️Can help lower high blood pressure and reduce blood clots and hardening of the arteries
💆‍♀️Lighten and brighten your complexion; applying fresh persimmon peel to the skin is an ancient beauty secret
🥂Can reduce the pain of hangovers

Rich in Vitamins A and C, iodine, phosphorus and manganese, persimmon flesh, leaves, and stems are all good for you. (Persimmon leaves can even be brewed into a health-boosting tea!)

These bright reddish fruits are also given as lucky presents to newlyweds to symbolize eternal love.❤️💍

Persimmons come into season for a very short time, September-mid December, and are best eaten fully ripe!

As with anything, moderation is key – enjoy persimmons ripe and in balance with your diet. ⚖️

The biggest things missing from the “my diet is superior to yours” conversation are:

✔️Is the food you are eating in season?
✔️Are you leptin resistant? (Take my leptin resistance quiz linked in my bio if you are unsure).
✔️Deuterium content & your ability to deplete it

So this is to say that if you live in Bali & enjoy eating fresh fruit (and you don’t have leptin resistance) - go for it!

However- if you live in New York & it’s December, you might want to skip the mangos - especially if you are leptin resistant.

When the UV index shifts below 5 - it’s time to move away from simple sugar fruits to more root vegetables & complex carbohydrates. (The dminder app can tell you when this happens for you).

My favorite rules of thumb for winter eating:

•Get to know your local farmer or shop at local farmer’s markets to find out what’s in season for you

•Eat a fist sized portion of grass-fed or wild caught protein at each meal

•Eat your last meal around sunset (or allow at least 4 hours between dinner and bedtime)

•Eat within 60 minutes of waking or sunrise

•Focus on hearty stews - broths, curries & homemade gravies

•If you enjoy vegetables stick to root vegetables - winter squashes and cruciferous vegetables

•Cellar stable foods & fermented foods are also great (always taking leptin into account)

•Winter is a great time to become more fat adapted & do a little more fasting if you choose

•Always take into account your level of Leptin Resistance when it comes to structuring your meals

❄️For a comprehensive approach to your diet - metabolic health & mitochondrial health this winter grab my 21 Day Leptin reset program or comment COUPON below this post & I will DM you a coupon!

You can also still join my Leptin Sensitive for the holidays challenge and pay only $20 (the price will go up to $99 on November 15th) - link in bio

Or for the best value - get the Winter is coming course & the 10 Day challenge for only $59 (offer unavailable after November 15th) - link in bio

PS - you can eat whatever you like whenever you like - but when it comes to eating per circadian biology - these are best practices 😉
