San Diego Sports Medicine & Family Health Center is proud to provide medical care for the student athletes of San Diego State University. Dr. Doug Dengerink, pictured here with San Diego State University Men's Basketball Athletic Trainer Sergio Ibarra, provided sideline coverage for the Aztecs as they beat the Utah State Aggies in the Mountain West Conference Tournament Championship Game on March 13th. The Aztecs advanced to the NCAA Tournament as a #6 seed and played #11 Syracuse in the first round on Friday, 3/19/2021. While Syracuse prevailed, we are looking forward to next season! Go Aztecs!

We're getting lots of questions about when vaccines will be available to patients. It could be in a few weeks or a few months.
Be sure we are able to contact you when vaccines are available.
Your access to your provider's electronic medical record is an important tool to stay informed regarding the opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.
If you need a primary care doctor, please call us and we can help!

If you already have a primary care doctor, we urge you to contact your provider now. Ask them how to complete the steps to have access to your medical record.

How you choose to feed your baby is a highly personal decision. Yet, if it is possible, the AAFP recommends breastfeeding, and/or for babies to receive expressed human milk exclusively for the first six months of life due to the many health benefits. Breast milk contains the probiotic bacteria and prebiotics that help babies form healthy immune systems and digestive tracts. Breast feeding benefits moms in supporting postpartum weight loss, reducing depression, type 2 diabetes, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and other conditions. Breast fed children experience lower risk of acute otitis media, gastroenteritis, atopic dermatitis, and life-threatening conditions such as severe lower respiratory infections, necrotizing enterocolitis, and sudden infant death syndrome. you can learn more about the choice to breastfeed at the AAFP link here: https://familydoctor.org/why-should-i-breastfeed/

The World Health Organization came out with new guidelines for exercise. All adults should get at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate to vigorous aerobic activity per week, including people living with chronic conditions or disability. Children and adolescents should get an average of 60 minutes per day.
Adults should also include strength training 2 days a week. This is important to maintain balance and prevent falls as we age, as well as to improve bone and metabolic health.
You can download the WHO Guidelines here for more ways to be active and improve your health. fil:///Users/lindaillingworth/Downloads/9789240015128-eng.pdf
