Dr. W here:

One of the hardest parts of COVID for me was not being able to travel. Like so many people, traveling feeds my soul. In naturopathic medicine, we are always talking about the determinants of health: quality food, clean water, sleep, and exercise (to name a few) but experiencing joy, relaxation and self-expression are very much determinants of health too—this may be more palpable for me now than ever before.

So on the plus side, I’m refreshed, relaxed and ready to jump back into things with a full cup. On the not-plus side, my email inbox is very full…

Now to start daydreaming (and night dreaming) my next adventure ✈️🌍🚌

Most of us know the tell tale signs of menopause like hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, low libido, and mood changes. But what is actually going on in our body through this change?

Typically, woman experience a natural decline of hormones including estrogen and progesterone around the ages of 45-55.  Fluctuations in those hormones leading up to the menopausal period can lead to a slew of symptoms even before hormone levels eventually decline and stay low. These premenopausal hormonal fluctuations can start at 35 or even earlier! Menopause can also bring up other changes in your body that we may not think to attribute to this shift, such as lower bone density and changes in cardiovascular and brain health. For more on how we approach and treat menopause follow our posts throughout the rest of October!

Back to school is officially upon on us. It is obviously a little different this time around. If your children will be doing at home learning, it will probably take a few weeks to figure out what works (and what definitely does not). Keeping a strong foundation and routine is key for optimal learning. What are your best home learning tips? Comment below😉👇 @ San Diego, California

Dr. Winter had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Chris and Dr. Rafael before the holidays about overcoming autoimmune disease. To learn a bit more about how we approach autoimmune disease (spoiler alert: it is possible to use natural methods to go in complete remission from autoimmune disease), check out our interview below.

Each individual is the gatekeeper of their own health and healing. Often times, our own intuition about our health can be a huge piece of our health puzzle. At Mosaic Integrative Medicine, we often ask our patients, “What do you think is going on?” or “Why do you think this is happening?” and the answers inevitably guide our treatment plan. What is your intuition telling you about your health? Are you listening?

We all know about the 80/20 rule that says if you adhere to a healthy lifestyle 80% of the time, it’s ok to take a break for the remaining 20% without derailing your results. But what about the other 80/20 rule? Otherwise known as Pareto’s Principle, it states that only 20% of what we do is responsible for 80% of our results. Do you have a complex diet, exercise and supplement routine that you are looking to streamline? Or, are you looking for some simple and precise interventions that have significant effects? Allow us to help guide you. While staying healthy can sometimes feel like a full time job, it doesn’t have to.

Medicinal plants are literally everywhere you turn and none is so lovely, delicate and versatile as unassuming chamomile. Chamomile is most commonly thought of as an aid for sleep and relaxation and while it is wonderful for those purposes, it’s also an excellent digestive bitter (getting our gastric juices going), anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, great when used topically for wound healing, and also comes to the rescue in the case of upset stomachs and gas and bloating. Yup, these little gentle flowers really do it all and their versatility is a great example of why plants make such effective medicine. Have a plant you just love to use? Send us a message and tell us why! We’ll feature our favorite response!
