TLDR- being a business owner has pros and cons.. This is just one of the super annoying things I deal with allllll the time, behind the scenes, to have a business, and provide healing bodywork to people in San Diego who need me.
SO MUCH goes into it. It's not just skill, lotion, and cool music..
I am kinda grumpy today. Meh
(Here's my email reply to an SEO solicitor)
James, I am going to level with you.
I really don't appreciate all this BS vague, word salad crap, and pressure to get on a call that I have to schedule during my precious day.
Do you have ANY IDEA how many emails like this I get?!?! LOTS! Like several per WEEK..
You offered a "quick breakdown" in your first email, and when I said sure, instead of GIVING me said breakdown, IE, how much you charge, and what I'd get for it. (This is how sales work, my dear.) Instead, you give me a chain of annoying emails, more word salad about "tailored strategies" and even a success story, without any information about said business you helped succeed. You offer appointments in the wrong time zone, and all this over email...as IF a massage therapist spends all day on their computer?! FML..
I ask for a phone number so that I can call you when I have time- when it's convenient for ME to do so- and again, the run around.
How do I know I am even speaking to a human being and this isn't some AI-generated response crap?
I don't.
Furthermore, only I know what my budget is and advertising needs are, so it's a waste of my time to talk with you if your services far exceed that, and guess what- they usually do.
Do what you say you're going to do--- provide a breakdown, and THEN, if that's something I am interested in-- I will schedule a call with you.
It's like you expect me to trust you when I know NOTHING about you or your business. You haven't provided a website or Yelp or Google listing where I can read reviews, you haven't provided references of your work... (whereas I have all that, no wonder you're contacting me!)
If you're not going to get more creative with your approach to cold emailing business owners, the least you can do is ACTUALLY respond as you say you will.
