🥕 Picky eater… or something more?
Feeding can be stressful—these simple therapist-approved tips can help:
✨ Eat at predictable mealtimes + eat together—routine builds comfort.
✨ Let kids explore food and get messy (touch, smell, play). Food play counts!
✨ Model eating & talk about food positively – Kids imitate what they see!
✨ Pair food with positives: Praise, conversation, fun plates, calm energy. Avoid pressure.
✨ Offer developmentally safe textures: If chewing is hard, avoid tough meats or mixed textures until skills improve.
👉 Likely just picky if they eat 10–20+ foods, grow well, and can slowly try new things.
🧐 When to get help:
If your child eats fewer than 10 foods, gags/chokes often, drops entire food groups, has meltdowns at meals, or has weight/nutrition concerns.
Always rule out medical concerns first (like reflux/GERD or swallowing issues).
