Neurofeedback sounds complicated. We promise β€” it isn't. πŸ’™

Here's exactly what happens when you come in for a session at San Diego Therapy Center:

Step 1: We listen first. Before anything else, we talk. We want to understand what you're experiencing β€” the anxiety that won't quit, the focus that slips away, the sleep that never feels restorative. Your story shapes your treatment.

Step 2: We map your brain. Small sensors are placed on your scalp β€” no electricity, no discomfort β€” and we measure your live brainwave activity. This gives us a picture of what's happening beneath the surface.

Step 3: Your brain gets feedback. You sit comfortably and watch a screen or listen to audio. When your brain produces healthier patterns, it receives a gentle signal β€” a reward. Over time, your brain learns to seek those patterns on its own.

Step 4: Your nervous system resets. Session by session β€” most people do 40 β€” your brain builds new, calmer baselines. Less reactivity. Better focus. Deeper sleep. More emotional steadiness.

There are no needles, no medication, and no side effects for most clients. Just your brain, doing what it was always capable of β€” with a little guidance.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, if something hasn't been working, we'd love to talk about whether neurofeedback might be the missing piece.

Behind every session at San Diego Therapy Center is a community that made it possible. πŸ’™

We are a nonprofit. That means when someone walks through our doors who can't afford full-rate therapy β€” we don't turn them away. When a family needs support but their insurance falls short β€” we find a way. When a community member needs a free resource β€” we build it.

None of that happens without support from people like you.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we're asking our community to invest in mental health β€” not just as a concept, but as a reality for the people in our city who need it most. Join our Trauma to Triumph circle to help.

Your donation to SDTC directly funds:
πŸ’œ Sliding scale therapy for individuals and families
πŸ’œ Pro bono sessions for those who cannot pay
πŸ’œ Free su***de awareness workshops and community education
πŸ’œ Neurofeedback access for underserved populations
πŸ’œ Programs that keep our doors open to everyone

Mental health care should be a right, not a privilege. Every dollar you give moves us closer to that reality in San Diego.

If this month has reminded you of the importance of mental health β€” for yourself, for someone you love, for your community β€” please consider making a gift.
Thank you for showing up with us. πŸ™

We get this question a lot: "Does neurofeedback actually work?"

Here's what the data says. 🧠

The Neurofeedback Advocacy Project tracked outcomes across more than 3,000 real clients β€” people of all ages, backgrounds, and diagnoses. After just 20 sessions, the results were striking:
✨ 40% average reduction in overall symptom severity
✨ Psychiatric emergency room visits dropped by 89%
✨ Self-harm and suicidal ideation cut from 35% to 15%
✨ Stress management scores improved by 35%
✨ Clients rated neurofeedback 4.03 out of 5 β€” higher than both counseling and medication

One client shared: "Neurofeedback has helped substantially in my journey to get better."
A therapist noted of their client: "First time SI-free after multiple therapies throughout life."

These aren't outliers. These are patterns β€” seen across thousands of people who came in skeptical and left changed.

At San Diego Therapy Center, we offer neurofeedback for anxiety, ADHD, trauma, PTSD, sleep difficulties, mood dysregulation, and more. No medication. No discomfort. Just your brain, trained to work with you instead of against you.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we want you to know this option exists β€” because too many people are still suffering without knowing there's another way forward.

We're accepting new clients now. πŸ’™

We are so grateful. πŸ’™

A heartfelt thank you to the Russell Grinnell Memorial Trust for their generous support in helping us bring our Oceanside location to life.

Because of this gift, more children and youth in our community β€” including some of the most underserved β€” will have access to the critical mental health services they deserve. More healing. More growth. More opportunities for brighter futures.

This is what community investment looks like in action. And we don't take it lightly.

To the Russell Grinnell Memorial Trust: thank you for believing in this work, in this community, and in the young people whose lives will be changed because of your generosity. We are honored to carry your trust forward. πŸ™

This is a conversation San Diego needs to be having. πŸ’™

Mental health expert Margaret Meagher joined CBS News New York this week to discuss a new study on the mental health crisis facing men and boys across the country. The study confirms what we see in our practice every day β€” men are far less likely to seek help, and that silence comes at a real cost.

We believe that changes when communities start talking openly about it.

If you have a son, brother, husband, father, or friend who might be struggling β€” share this. Start the conversation. And know that SDTC is here to help, with compassionate, expert care tailored to men, teen boys, and families throughout San Diego.

πŸ’™ You are not alone β€” Text "HOME" to 741741 or call 988
πŸ’™ Asking for help is not weakness.
πŸ’™ Real support is available β€” from Talk therapy to Neurofeedback.

We are thrilled to welcome Chad Martin to the San Diego Therapy Center Board of Directors. πŸ’™

Chad is the founder and visionary behind the Onesie Beach Volleyball Tournament β€” an annual San Diego tradition that brings the community together each year to raise funds for a deserving cause. This past year, SDTC was honored to be the chosen beneficiary β€” and the impact of that event has been felt deeply in everything we do.

Chad didn't just show up for SDTC. He built something extraordinary. And now he's bringing that same heart, creativity, and community spirit to our board.

We are so grateful β€” and so excited for what's ahead. πŸ™πŸ’œ

We need to talk about stress. Not the "busy week" kind β€” the kind that's been building for years. πŸ’™

From economic uncertainty to global conflict to societal division, the American Psychological Association is calling it: we are living in chronically stressful times. And that kind of stress doesn't just affect your mood β€” it gets under your skin. Literally.

Chronic societal stress has been linked to real, measurable impacts on both mental and physical health β€” for individuals, families, and entire communities.

The good news? There are research-backed strategies to cope. And you don't have to navigate them alone.

At San Diego Therapy Center, this is exactly what we help people work through β€” the weight of living in hard times, and finding steadiness within it.

Taking care of your mental health doesn't always look dramatic. πŸ’œ

Sometimes it looks like:
β€” Saying no to something that drains you
β€” Going to bed instead of scrolling
β€” Reaching out to a friend you've been avoiding
β€” Asking for help when you're not okay
β€” Sitting with a feeling instead of numbing it
β€” Booking that therapy appointment you've been putting off

Small acts of self-awareness add up. And every single one of them counts.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we're cheering you on β€” wherever you are in your journey. πŸ’™

She was fine.

Except she couldn't drive on the freeway anymore. Except she woke up at 2am, heart hammering, the squeal of tires still ringing in her ears. Except she sat through her niece's birthday party with her eyes fixed on the exit, unable to tell you afterward what flavor the cake was.

"I thought trauma was something that happened to other people," she said. "People who went through wars. People who lost children. Not someone like me."

Sofia's story is one so many people recognize β€” and never talk about. And it's why we wrote this.

If you've been telling yourself your trauma isn't "bad enough" to count β€” that you should be over it by now β€” please hear this:
Trauma is not measured by how dramatic it looks from the outside. It's measured by what it does to your nervous system.

And your nervous system deserves real care.
