We are saddened to announce the passing of Dr Mills' husband, Micheal, on August 26th.

Many of you have been asking about sending flowers etc to show your caring and concern for Dr Mills and her family. Cards can be mailed to the office and we will pass on to Dr Mills.

HIS STORY
"WHERE EVER YOU GO, THERE YOU ARE"

Mike, a beloved father, husband and treasured friend, passed away at home surrounded by his family after a valiant 10 year struggle with kidney cancer. Mike was born in Chippewa Falls, WI to Joe and Iola Price. He became a nurse anesthetist after serving as an Army medic, working first in the Twin cities, followed by Honolulu and finally at Kaiser in San Diego, as well as joining travelling medical teams to Mexico. It was in Hawaii that Michael met his second wife, Suzanne, on a blind date arranged by their mutual friend, Debbie Buccigrossi. Following a long distance romance they settled in San Diego raising two wonderful children, daughter MacKenzie and son Jamieson. Although settled isn’t really a word that applied to Mike.
Mike was a great adventurer, he ran marathons, cycled across the US and Canada, rock climbed glaciers and volcanos, sailed a 35 ft sailboat from Japan to Hawaii, canoed the boundary waters, to name just some of his exploits before he raised a family. Michael loved flying and at first got his pilot’s license in San Diego, but found his real joy in flying came from paragliding. He travelled from Washington state to Mexico competing in paragliding events.
Mike was nothing if not resilient, he continued to fly and travel even after his cancer had spread to his lungs, bone and brain. He and MacKenzie as well as two of her friends cycled the Camino de Santiago from Lyon, France to the Atlantic Coast of Spain. He also traveled to Thailand with MacKenzie, Jamie and nephew, Justin, for a rock climbing, scuba diving adventure which was interrupted by a brain bleed from a new tumor. Amazingly he recovered enough to get back to paragliding, travel to visit friends in Hawaii and to go on a ski trip to visit family in Canada.
When Mike was a stay at home dad he developed new hobbies learning to make beautiful turned wood bowls. He also took up birdwatching, inspired by his father-in-law Don, and shared by his children and best friend, Russ. He was a steadfast friend to Russ during his own extraordinarily long battle with cancer, spending nights in the hospital and going on 3 “last trips” together. Russ was an inspiration to Mike.
Mike felt that his best adventure of all and greatest accomplishment was being a dad to MacKenzie and Jamie.
Michael is survived by his children, MacKenzie and Jamieson, wife, Suzanne Mills, brothers Steve(Crystal, MN), and Richard(Chippewa Falls,WI), sister Marilyn(Ken,Rochester Hills,MI), Aunt Florence, brothers-in-law Robb(Debi) and Jack MIlls, parents in law, Grace and Don McClintock, 11 nieces and nephews, 4 great nephews, friends from Massachusetts to Hawaii and his dog, Pepe. His is preceded in death by his parents Joe(2001) and Iola(June 2016) and sister-in-law Lana Price.

To cover the costs of this service, a $40 minimum charge per call will be applied to your account. This charge will not be billed to your insurance. The majority of insurance companies do not cover this service because of the free triage lines they offer their insured.

Congratulations to Rady Children's Doctors and their medical teams! Eric Montano is the first pediatric patient in San Diego to undergo a successful heart transplant.

An amazing day at Rady Children’s as we announced that our doctors had performed the first pediatric heart transplant in San Diego history. We were also thrilled to introduce the recipient, 11-year-old Eric Montano and his parents. This incredible milestone was the culmination of years of planning and preparation. PLEASE READ EMAIL SENT FROM RADY CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL REGARDING THE ENTEROVIRUS D68

"Enterovirus D68 causes bad colds. When this was first identified as causing increased admissions in the Mid-West it was called “the Mystery Virus” and that was alarming. We know what the virus is and know there is nothing to be alarmed about. It’s a bad cold.

· With a bad cold children(and adults) with underlying respiratory disease can get sicker. This is the population that we have been seeing an increase but not a BIG increase.

· Parents should treat their children with symptoms in the usual manner with rest, fluids and regular cold medicine if needed. If the child has difficulty in breathing then that is a reason to see their physician. Most children do not need medical care.



To prevent spreading Enterovirus D68 you should:

1. Practice good hand hygiene

2. If a child is admitted they go into Droplet and Contact isolation. At RCHSD we are asking ALL respiratory patients to be in Droplet and Contact as we are not testing all patients as there is not a need.

3. Clean any shared equipment between patients if hospitalized.

4. Drink fluids, get rest and provide supportive care.

5. Sick visitors should not visit and sick stay should stay home (Fever and a productive cough are considered sick, along with not feeling good).

Please spread the word that this is not a mystery illness.. “It’s a bad cold”.

Update on lobby and hallway upgrade.

On Saturday November 3rd, demo will commence on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Some of the process has a strong odor to it but the building management reassures us they will have ventilation equipment to help dissipate the odor.

The elevator lobbies will be closed through the weekend of Nov 3rd, use the north entrance and stairwell to access our office for any Saturday appointments.

The target date of completion is December 20th. We appreciate your patience and understanding throughout the process.
